USD's Hult, Kobus named Great West Players of Week
South Dakota’s tandem of Heather Hult and Amber Kobus earned the first Great West Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week as the announcement came from the conference office in Naperville, IL.
Hult, a 6-foot-2 senior from Davis, led the Coyotes to a perfect 4-0 record this past weekend at the Hampton University Tournament in Hampton, VA. The senior polished off the tournament with a team-high .625 hitting percentage in the three-game sweep over Providence on Saturday. She recorded double-digit kills in three of the four games, including 11 kills in just 16 attacks against Providence. For the week, Hult averaged 2.67 kills, .341 hitting percentage and posted seven aces.
On the defensive side of the net, Kobus, a 5-foot-5 senior from Columbus, NE, led South Dakota in digs each game with a team-high 28 against Wofford College in the opening game of the Hampton University Tournament. She tallied at least 17 digs in each match and finished the week averaging 20 digs a match and 5.33 digs a game.
The senior libero also posted nine assists and was key in South Dakota’s perfect 4-0 start in their first weekend as a Division I program.
South Dakota will be in action this weekend at the Golden Eagle Tournament in Crookston, MN on Friday, Sept. 5 and Saturday, Sept. 6.
