Library to screen ‘The Journey of August King’

Published: Friday, March 5th, 2010

John Ehle’s novel The Journey of August King is the next featured selection for Historics and Flicks on Thursday, March 18, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Community Room at the Vermillion Public Library.

Following the showing of the film, a brief discussion will be facilitated by Jim Zuercher, adjunct faculty and writing specialist at Morningside College.  This program is free and open to the public.   Hot drinks and popcorn will be provided.

Copies of this 1810 historical novel, set in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, are available at the circulation desk.  This passionate, uplifting celebration of the human spirit received outstanding acclaim from critics.  In this inspiring story, a pioneer farmer, August King, risks everything to help a slave woman on a courageous and very dangerous search for a new life.  Desperate, yet determined, the two set out on a harrowing journey toward freedom ... and find in each other the strength to overcome incredible odds.
