Arlene Larson



Arlene Larson, age 83, of Yankton, died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 25, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend David Lund officiating.  Burial was in the Meckling Cemetery in Meckling. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m., on Sunday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation resumed one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Pallbearers were Ryan Larson, Pat Lowe, Jamil Aluffi, Bob Stengle, Tom Stengle and Ben Van Osdel.

Norma Arlene Larson was born Jan. 25, 1926 in Vermillion, to Roy and Mary (Nelson) Piersol. She graduated from University High School in Vermillion in 1944. On Feb. 2, 1957, Arlene married Kenneth “Gene” Larson in South Sioux City, NE. They made their home at rural Gayville and farmed on the place where Gene grew up. They retired in the late 1980s and few years later moved to Yankton. Arlene loved being with her grandchildren and they were an extremely important part of her life.

Arlene is survived by two children, Steve (Kathi) Larson of Yankton and Charlie (Vicki) Larson of Mitchell; three grandchildren, Leslie (Pat) Lowe, Lucinda (Jamil) Aluffi and Ryan (Crystal) Larson; three step-grandchildren, Paul, Machelle and Chris Grohs; 18 great grandchildren; three sisters, Margie Stengle of Yankton, Corinne Callahan of Phoenix, AZ, and Ruth Neer of Fresno, CA; and a brother-in-law, Bob (Margaret) Larson of Sioux City, IA.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene on April 4, 2006; a brother, Ralph Piersol; and three sisters, Florence and Elsie Piersol and Dorothy Christensen.
