Carlson is a sophomore majoring in athletic training at SDSU, the son of Mike and Kathy Carlson of Vermillion, and is a 2008 graduate of Vermillion High School. Founded in 1881, SDSU is the state’s largest, most comprehensive university. Ranked by the Carnegie Foundation as the number one research institution in South Dakota, SDSU offers more than 200 academic programs to students on the main campus in Brookings and at sites across the state.
