Tanager grappler triangular scheduled here Tuesday

One of only three chances all season for Vermillion fans to see their highly-regarded wrestling team on the home mats will occur Tuesday, weather permitting.

 

A triangular involving the Tanagers with Madison and Tea Area, which was postponed by the first of the December snowstorms on Dec. 8, is rescheduled for Tuesday with the first matches to be whistled into action at 5:30 p.m.

 

The Tanagers spent Christmas week getting ready for the Floyd Farrand Invitational at Sioux Falls Lincoln held this past Monday and Tuesday.  Results from that action will appear in next week's Plain Talk.

 

Vermillion stretched its dual record to 7-1 on Dec. 17 with a 49-23 triumph at West Central.

 

The Tanagers never trailed in the dual though their advantage grew slim a couple times during the evening.  Pins in the early going by Brett Bye, Regan Bye and Earl Kiertzner and a 14-4 Lance Burkhart major decision lifted Vermillion to a 28-10 lead through seven weight classes.

 

Three straight Trojan wins closed the gap to 28-23 before the Tanagers' big boys put an end to things in a hurry.  Chris Mart and Nick Mart scored pins, Will Mart won a 6-2 decision and Gerrit Heine's heavyweight pin was the exclamation point.
