Hazel Boline Wherry, 95, died Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Sanford Vermillion Care Center in Vermillion, SD.

A Funeral Service will be Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Dalesburg Lutheran Church in rural Vermillion at 1:00 PM with burial in Bluff View Cemetery following the luncheon. Visitation with family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Kober Funeral Home in Vermillion.

Hazel was born February 19, 1922, at Dalesburg, Clay County, South Dakota to John and Anna Boline. She was the second oldest of five children. Hazel grew up on a farm in the Hub City area and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1940.

After graduation, she received a diploma from The Commercial Extension School in Omaha., Nebraska. She worked for Thompson Lumber Company as a secretary, and later, as a legal secretary for Attorney Harold Dwyer. After he passed away, she prepared income taxes which she did until she retired in 2003. Hazel sold real estate for Crew Real Estate and First Choice Real Estate in Vermillion.

Hazel married Leo Wherry, from Vermillion, on December 22, 1959. He passed away on March 16, 1998.

She was a member of Dalesburg Lutheran Church, and was all her life. Hazel also belonged to the Vermillion Senior Citizens Center and Friends of the W.H. Over Museum. She established the Hilma Newman Scholarship Fund for USD business students.

Survivors include her daughter, JoAnn (Roy) Olsen, of Sioux Falls, a stepson, David (Janel) Wherry, of Vermillion, a stepdaughter, Judy Morse, of Albuquerque, NM, a cousin, Sigrid Nissen, of Vermillion, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Boline, her husband, Leo Wherry, one sister, LuVern Swenson, and three brothers, Milton Boline, Harley Boline and Marshall Boline.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Dalesburg Lutheran Church, 30595 North University Road, Vermillion, SD 57069 / or the Main Street Center, 320 West Main Street, Vermillion, SD 57069
