University of South Dakota graduate Derek Miles qualified for the 2009 World Outdoor Track and Field Championships last Saturday with a second-place finish in the pole vault at the 2009 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, OR.

Vermillion pitcher Cory Taggart, with the tying runs at second and third and only one out in the top of the seventh inning, struck out the fourth and fifth men in the Alexandria batting order to end the game and lead his Post 1 team to an exhilarating 3-1 win.

Wednesday, June 24, the Vermillion Greysox took on the Upper Division Vermillion Red Sox at Prentis Park. The Red Sox proved to be too much to handle as their wooden bats would pound out 15 runs on 15 hits, to the Greysox five runs on eight hits.

Tournament Winners

ladies have fun time

There were 26 ladies at the Wednesday Morning Ladies Golf luncheon on June 10. We had a wonderful meal and the desserts were delicious. Desserts were provided by Eileen Turner and Karin Amundson.

It was another overcast evening for WELL.  Someone said that sprinkles should be on ice cream not on the golf course.  At least the sprinkles stayed off until the last few holes.

Red Sox ranked fifth in amateur baseball poll

The Vermillion Red Sox improved their record to 6-3 with a four-game winning streak last week and continued to be ranked fifth in the statewide Class "A" amateur baseball poll.

Post 1 cruises to 13-3 win over Yankton

Twenty Vermillion batters strode to the plate in the first two innings as Post 1 built an early 9-0 lead, then cruised to a seven-inning 13-3 win over Yankton in a Tuesday night game shortened due to the 10-run rule.
