Last Week's Sports Headlines
June 25th, 2009
Ryun Williams, head women’s basketball coach at The University of South Dakota, and South Dakota State women’s basketball coach Aaron Johnston have announced that the Coyotes and Jackrabbits will play on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 at 7 p.m. in Brookings. There was a change in the weather, finally. It was a warm and muggy evening with many surprises in store. A game at Elk Point on Wednesday night will be the next action for the Vermillion Red Sox, who split a pair of games last week. With the regular season down to its final two weeks, Vermillion’s 13-14 Teeners baseball team faces a busy schedule in preparation for regional tournament play in mid-July. Trailing 4-1 after one inning and down 5-2 after two innings, Vermillion Post 1 rallied to score one of its most satisfying victories of the season Tuesday night in Elk Point. June 18th, 2009
There were 26 ladies at the Wednesday Morning Ladies Golf luncheon on June 10. We had a wonderful meal and the desserts were delicious. Desserts were provided by Eileen Turner and Karin Amundson. It was another overcast evening for WELL. Someone said that sprinkles should be on ice cream not on the golf course. At least the sprinkles stayed off until the last few holes. The Vermillion Red Sox improved their record to 6-3 with a four-game winning streak last week and continued to be ranked fifth in the statewide Class "A" amateur baseball poll. Twenty Vermillion batters strode to the plate in the first two innings as Post 1 built an early 9-0 lead, then cruised to a seven-inning 13-3 win over Yankton in a Tuesday night game shortened due to the 10-run rule.
