Terry Liggins had an automatic qualifying mark to the NCAA Division II outdoor nationals in the 110-meter hurdles to highlight the performances of The University of South Dakota track and field teams at the Ward Haylett Invitational on Saturday in Manhattan, KS. The meet was hosted by Kansas State University.
Liggins (Sr., Omaha, NE) finished second with a season-best time of :13.89. It was Liggins' second-fastest time in the 110-meter hurdles during his career (:13.82, 2006).
The Coyote men's team also received third-place finishes from Dominic Artis and Colte Haines. Artis (Jr., Brooklyn Park, MN) was third in the men's 200-meter dash in :21.50 as he just missed meeting the qualifying mark (:21.48) to nationals. Haines (Sr., White Lake) had a pair of third-place finishes in the field events. He went 22'10.50 in the long jump and 46'08.75 in the triple jump.
Jeff Sebern (Fr., Brook-ings) was fourth (44'01.50) in the men's triple jump while Josh Olson (Sr., Watertown) was eighth (21'10) in the men's long jump. Tim Rust (Luverne, MN) finished eighth in the men's pole vault (15'01).
The Coyote women's team was led by the fourth-place finish of Shaneka Parkes (Jr., St. Ann, Minard Hill, Jamaica), who had a provisional qualifying mark to nationals of 135'07 in the javelin throw. Parkes also finished seventh (:25.18) in the 200-meter dash.
Also for the USD women, freshman Amber Hegge (Crofton, NE) was fourth (18'02.50) in the long jump. She also claimed eighth (37'02.50) in the triple jump.
Jasmine Mosley (So., Bellevue, NE) had three top-10 finishes in the women's throwing events. She was sixth in the discus at 140'02. Mosley also took ninth (147'08) in the hammer throw and 10th (40'09.75) in the shot put.
Katie Cerling (Sr., Plymouth, MN) finished eighth (11'07.75) in the pole vault.
USD's Andrene Miller (Manchester, Jamaica) was sixth (17'03.25) and Tia Haines (So., White Lake, S.D.), eighth (15'08.25), in the women's long jump.
USD assistant coach Sam Pribyl, competing unattached, won the men's pole vault by going 16'10.75.
