Children’s Book Week

In celebration of Children's Book Week, we invite you to join us in a Children’s Book Hunt! From November 9th - 15th, we will be hosting a Book Hunt in the downtown area. This will not only serve to highlight many great children's books, but also provide a safe, socially distant outdoor activity for families.

To be a participating business, you would only need to do a few simple things:

• Hang the book cover we provide in a window of your business (facing out) from November 9th - 15th.

• Do not share on social media that you are participating or what cover is displayed in your window. It's a secret that our participants must find out for themselves!

Our community members will be invited to search for the book covers and list the business where they locate each cover. Their hunt results can then be turned into the library for a chance to win a prize.

If you are interested in participating as a business or have any questions, please contact Amanda Raiche at

The Giving Tree 2020 - ESA – THETA OMEGA CHAPTER

THE GIVING TREE continues to bring smiles to youth and families at Christmas. For over 30 years this community project has provided gifts to Clay County area youth, ages 0-18, from low income families. In 2019, the lives of 246 youth (year over year increase of 20%!) were provided with gifts for Christmas due to the generosity of the community.

There are ten trees located in the Vermillion area including: Pizza Ranch, Davis Pharmacy, Hy-Vee, Sanford Hospital, Vermillion Public Library, St. Agnes and Wal-Mart. Each tree is decorated with tags listing items the child needs and wants for Christmas. Tags are then selected, gifts purchased and returned, unwrapped with tag(s) attached, to any of the businesses listed above.

We also have many generous businesses and groups that participate by making financial donations or obtain tags. Each tree also has donation envelopes for those who would prefer to financially support but not purchase gifts. Tags will be available at most sites prior to Thanksgiving and are due back December 5th.

The Theta Omega Chapter of ESA, in conjunction with the Salvation Army, would like to thank in advance all area organizations and individuals who generously support this very special Christmas project.

Monetary donations can be mailed to ESA- Giving Tree, PO Box 513, Vermillion SD 57069.

Announcement from the Coyote Twin

The Coyote Twin has announced they will be "going dark" beginning Monday, November 2nd. The continual delay of new releases by the film studios, the cost of keeping movies on screen, and the uptick in COVID cases in our area resulted in them coming to this decision. They will still be open for weekend popcorn sales and private rentals as of November.

How You Can Help

As of the permanent closure of the AMC Classic 5 in Yankton this summer, the Coyote Twin is now the only movie theater in a 30-mile radius of Vermillion, which encompasses a tri-state area.

The Coyote Twin wants to be ready for a return to business when the film industry resumes regular movie releases. To help them succeed, please consider donating and/or contacting your congressmen to urge them to support #SaveYourCinema.
