Brian is a startup junkie who has guided early stage companies from concept through exit. Brian has also been a part of numerous concept launches, assisting founders of businesses specializing in high tech, retail, renewable energy and ecommerce. All of this took place while Brian was recovering from being a CPA.

USD Theatre Presents "Into the Woods"

The University of South Dakota Department of Theatre continues its 2018-2019 season with the classic musical comedy Into the Woods, written by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. Take a trip to Once Upon a Time—when Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Jack and the beanstalk all lived in the same village. Inspired by Grimm’s Fairy Tales, this musical mashup takes us on the hilarious, heartfelt, and occasionally gruesome journeys these folk characters make, then it explores what happens when they get what they think they wanted.

Into the Woods performs November 16th-18th and November 28th-December 2nd in the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre on the USD campus. Tickets ($15 Adults, $12 Senior Citizen [62+], $10 K-12 & non-USD students with ID, and $5 USD students with ID) can be purchased in the afternoons (12 – 5 pm) starting November 9th at the USD Theatre Box Office or by calling (605)658-3484; tickets can also be purchased online at

Vermillion Human Relations Commission (VHRC)

Last Thursday, the Vermillion Human Relations Commission (VHRC) approved adding two women from the Vermillion community to join the commission as ex-officio Advisors. We currently have no women serving on the commission, so we hope this will add more gender-diversity to the group. The VHRC will appoint the two new Advisors at our meeting on Thursday, December 6, and the term goes through May 6, 2019. Also, applicants need to live in Vermillion.

Here is the link to the City's Expression of Interest Form (also attached):

If you or anyone you know is interested in serving, please submit an application before the December 6 meeting.

The Giving Tree

Bringing smiles to youth and families at Christmas. For over 30 years this community project has provided gifts to Clay County area youth, ages 0-18, from low income families. In 2017, 291 youth were provided with gifts for Christmas due to the big hearts and generosity of our community. This is a year over year increase of 20%!

There are eleven trees located in the Vermillion area including: Ace Hardware (Vermillion), Dalesburg Lutheran Church, Davis Pharmacy, Hy-Vee, Knutson Family Dentistry, Little Italy’s, Sanford Hospital, The Bean, Vermillion Public Library, Wal-Mart and Whimps. Each tree is decorated with tags listing items the child needs and wants for Christmas. Tags are selected, gifts purchased and returned, unwrapped with tag(s) attached, to any of the businesses listed above Tags will be available at most sites prior to Thanksgiving and are due back December 9th. ESA members distribute gifts mid-December to families.

We also have many generous businesses and groups that participate by making financial donations or obtaining tags. Each tree also has donation envelopes for those who prefer to financially support but not purchase gifts. Monetary donations can also be mailed to ESA Theta Omega – The Giving Tree, PO Box 644, Vermillion SD 57069.
