Hometown Roots Salon co-owners Katie Brewer and Kelsy Jansen, their staff, Mayor Kelsey Collier-Wise, VCDC Board of Directors Vice-Chair Jeff Erickson and VCDC Ambassador Jami Baedke helped welcome the new business to downtown Vermillion with a ribbon cutting ceremony April 29.

Vermillion, SD., April 27th, 2021 – The Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company (VCDC) hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome a new business, Hometown Roots Salon on Thursday April 29, starting at 5 p.m. Following the ceremony, an open house was held at the salon until 7 p.m. The new business, located at 118 E. Main St., Vermillion.

Hometown Roots Salon co-owners Katie Brewer and Kelsy Jansen, as well as their entire staff, are Vermillion locals, and have either grown up and are now raising their own families or have parents from Vermillion, which is where the clever name ‘Hometown Roots’ originates from.

“Opening a salon is something both Kelsey and I wanted to do for a long time, and when this opportunity to take this space came up, we couldn’t pass it up,” said Brewer. “It’s been a really great experience so far! We are excited to watch the salon and staff grow and see where this adventure takes us from here.”

VCDC Board of Directors Vice-Chair Jeff Erickson stood in for President & CEO Nate Welch and was joined by Mayor Kelsey Collier-Wise and VCDC Ambassador Jami Baedke to officiate the ribbon cutting ceremony at the salon.

“The Hometown Roots Salon is a wonderful addition to the Vermillion community,” said Welch. “It’s fantastic to see people born and raised in the area open up their own small business where it all started. We are thrilled to welcome Katie, Kelsy, and the staff at Hometown Roots Salon to the VCDC and to the business community in Vermillion.”

Attendees at the ribbon cutting and open house were able to take a tour of the salon, as well as compete in a drawing for products and gift certificates.

“We decided to join the VCDC membership because of all of the great things they do to make Vermillion a better place,” said Brewer. “This is our way of being able to give back a little.”

The new salon, which officially opened in February 2021, offers a wide range of basic and extended services for every member of the family. They also take walk-in appointments and offer a 10% discount for USD students with Katie and Paige. Hours of operation: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (9 a.m. – 7 p.m.) and Tuesdays (9 a.m. – 2 p.m.). Closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
