VCDC

The 2019 Annual Banquet of the Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company (VCDC) has been set for Tuesday, April 2, with tickets now available for purchase and location soon to be announced. This annual, multi-media event has grown phenomenally in recent years, having become a premium night of entertainment that attendees don’t want to miss.

The evening’s highlights include the presentation of a number of awards, including the VCDC Community Leader of the Year, the NEXT Young Professional of the Year, the VCDC Brick Awards, the Mayor’s Community Service Award, and more. Attendees can expect several creative surprises and great entertainment, delicious food, special features, and an evening of true community celebration.

“It may come as no surprise to many that your VCDC staff take the annual banquet just as seriously as any other endeavor within our organization,” said Nate Welch, VCDC president and CEO. “The reason for this is to dedicate an evening of taking stock of what our community has achieved over the past year, to hold up those businesses, organizations, and individuals who’ve really exemplified that commitment to excellence in supporting Vermillion, and in turn, to motivate and inspire ourselves to continue in the very important work of making our community all it can be.”

This year’s guest of honor is Larry Stuart, hospitality leader, business startup and turnaround specialist.

“When I recently had the opportunity to meet VCDC while on a trip to South Dakota, I was touched by their passion for their community and I just knew I had to make a point to come and visit Vermillion myself,” said Stuart.

The author of the recently published book, “The Spirit of Hospitality,” Stuart has over 40 years of experience in hospitality management, food and beverage solution innovation, guest service systems and marketing strategies.

“Larry Stuart is one of those rare individuals who can really empower others to do good things,” Welch said. “I’m so excited to bring him to Vermillion, but even more excited for the way his keynote speech will no doubt inspire us to be the sort of community we strive to be.”

The public is encouraged to attend the banquet and help celebrate all that our community has accomplished together. Personal invitations will be mailed to Chamber members, Vermillion NOW investors, and other partners in the coming days, which can be responded to by using the provided envelopes.

However, all are welcome and tickets can also be obtained by contacting the VCDC office at 605-624-5571. Individual tickets can be purchased at $60, $50 for Chamber members, or $35 for Vermillion NEXT members. This year, corporate tables with a special gift and reserved seating may be purchased for $300. In addition, VIP corporate tables will also receive special gifts and will include premier stage seating and a sponsored table centerpiece for $600.

Doors will open for a special social hour at 5 p.m. The social hour features live music, hors d'oeuvres and cocktails, a photo booth and a red-carpet event hosted by emcee, Weston Olson. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m., with the program getting underway at 6:30 p.m. The evening will wrap up with a post-social at 8:30 p.m.

The VCDC is currently seeking nominations for the 2019 Vermillion Area Community Leader Award, NEXT Young Professional of the Year Award and the 2019 Vermillion Area Family Business Award.

The Community Leader Award is given to the Vermillion area individual with a prominent history of success, community involvement, and service-oriented leadership. This award recognizes the accomplishments of a Vermillion area individual and his/her/their contributions to our community.

The NEXT Young Professional of the Year award is given to recognize outstanding young professionals in our community who have committed themselves to excellence in community engagement as well as in their professional lives.

“I greatly appreciate the encouragement and opportunities given to young professionals to contribute to the life and vitality of our town,” said Laura Anderton, last year’s NEXT Young Professional of the Year Award winner.

The Family Business Award is given to a Vermillion area family business with a strong record of success, family involvement, community service, multi-generational culture, and a positive, family business structure.
