The Vermillion Post 1 Legion baseball team played at Tabor last Friday. Post 1 lost 3-7.
“The Tabor game was a tough one,” said head coach Tom Heisinger. “I thought we played well; they just beat us. That's the game sometimes.”
Tabor started with a 2-0 lead after the first inning. The opponents scored another three in the fourth before Vermillion got on the scoreboard in the sixth.
Post 1 scored two in the sixth. Tabor responded with two in the bottom of the inning.
Vermillion was down 2-7 going into the seventh. They added one to their score, but Tabor ended the game before a comeback could be made.
Post 1 fell to Tabor 3-7. Vermillion had six hits and one error. The competition had 11 hits and no errors.
At the plate, Dylan Thelen had one RBI and two hits for Vermillion. Connor Saunders had two hits on the night.
On the mound, Jacob Chaussee pitched the game-high four innings and recorded 13 first-pitch strikes. Drew Thelen also pitched and had seven first-pitch strikes.
The Region 3B Tournament in Elk Point began this past Wednesday with Vermillion playing Beresford. The winner went on to play Lennox in the quarterfinals that evening.
The semifinal games were played Thursday, and the championship game is this Friday at 7:30 p.m. If needed, the second game of the double-elimination tournament will be on Saturday at noon.
