Acting upon a recommendation from the courthouse planning committee the Clay County Commissioners have agreed to reschedule any bond election for the project until no later than June, 2021. The election was originally planned for the upcoming November general election. At its meeting of June 16, the commissioners were informed of the recommendation that was passed unanimously by the courthouse planning committee at its meeting on June 15. After considerable discussion the courthouse planning committee confirmed that holding public informational meetings is a very important part of this project but the unpredictability of the pandemic makes it impossible to conduct such meetings safely.
The county commissioners and the courthouse planning committee anticipate strong interest in the public meetings resulting in high attendance. However, such meetings do need to be held in a manner that will not threaten public health. While the bond election is being rescheduled for next spring the courthouse planning committee will continue its work to keep this project moving forward. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact either the county commissioners and/or members of the courthouse planning committee that are listed on the county’s web page.
