The Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company (VCDC) and Vermillion NEXT Young Professionals Network announced last week the return of Thursdays on the Platz for its 11th season.

The summer music series kicked off last week, July 8 in downtown Vermillion and will bring free, live music to downtown Vermillion for a total of eight weeks this summer.

The first Thursdays on the Platz, held last week, featured musical entertainment from the band Wild Card. This week, on July 15, Kobe Provost was the featured entertainer.

Thursdays on the Platz will be held every Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the interim location of the City Hall parking lot on Center Street. The new location for 2021 is due to the current Downtown Streetscape construction.

The National Music Museum has again partnered with the VCDC to allow Thursdays on the Platz an opportunity for the community to gather and enjoy downtown Vermillion in the summer while listening to free live music on the National Music Museum stage.

“We love having an opportunity to showcase the best of Vermillion and Thursdays on the Platz is a perfect way to spend a summer evening in the heart of downtown,” said Nate Welch, president and CEO of the VCDC. “While the location might be different this year, you can still expect to hear great local musicians, enjoy food from some of Vermillion’s favorite caterer’s and indulge in beverages from breweries around the region.”

Each week, Thursdays on the Platz will feature a different musician or band, along with a food vendor and brewery. There will also be a designated children’s area for age-appropriate play and fun. People are also encouraged to bring along their dog family members to enjoy the festivities. These events are made possible by weekly sponsors from local Vermillion businesses.

The National Music Museum stage line up will feature, after this week:

July 22nd – Warning Shots

July 29th – Fine Mess

August 5th – Bluff Ridge Band

August 12th – Whiskey Rich*

August 19th – Nick Burke

August 26th – Blue Rune

* Event will be held at Clay County Fair
