Next Thursday, Dec. 5, plan to attend the fourth-annual Standstill Parade of Lights in downtown Vermillion. The festive kick-off to Christmas takes place from 6 until 7:00 p.m. and will include holiday music, creative parade entries, warm drinks and treats, giveaways, and more.
“The Standstill Parade of Lights is a wonderful and festive holiday event that’s perfect for all ages,” said Nate Welch, president of the Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company, which hosts the event. “For those who enjoy the holidays, it’s a great way to kick off the season with the community – it has the sights, sounds, tastes and joy that make the Holidays such a perfect time to get out and be social. Folks can expect all the usual components of a Parade of Lights, and of course, the highpoint will be Santa arriving and leading the lighting of the community tree on Ratingen Platz (at 6:45 p.m.).”
This is the fourth year that Vermillion’s Parade of Lights is a “standstill” production. The stationery parade allows for better participation and creates a unique holiday party atmosphere in the streets of historic downtown Vermillion, say organizers.
“A realization was made a few years ago that we had to make the participant experience smoother so that everyone had a chance to see everything they might want to see, partake of drinks and treats if they wanted to, and still make it down to the community tree in time for the lighting,” said Welch. “Having the floats stand still while attendees are free to move around has created a greater experience for everyone, attendees and participants, alike.”
The VCDC is proud of the Standstill Parade event and is excited to see even more community members in attendance this year.
“The Standstill Parade is something we’re really proud of facilitating in Vermillion, and have been so pleased to watch it grow,” said Welch. “There are a lot of things to love about Vermillion during the Holidays, from wonderful shopping and dining options, to excellent musical and performance events, and of course, enjoying seeing our friend and neighbors out and about preparing for the season. We’re just looking forward to another wonderful event!”
