Sunday, August 25

3:16 AM -- A deputy responded along with a Highway Patrol Trooper to a report of a disturbance at a Vermillion residence. Upon arrival, no disturbance or any criminal activity was found.

1:05 PM -- A deputy responded to a report of a motorcycle abandoned near Vermillion. The motorcycle was determined to be one that was reported stolen from Vermillion and the Vermillion Police were investigating. The Vermillion PD took possession of the motorcycle and continued with their investigation.

2:11 PM -- A deputy investigated a report of an online attempt of a scam where an unknown person attempted to extort money from a rural resident. No money was provided to the scammer.

2:12 PM -- A deputy responded to the Clay County Park Campground where a lost child had been located after his parents had left him behind. Each parent thought the child was in the other's vehicle. A family friend at the campground was able to call the father who returned for the child.

Monday, August 26

11:05 AM -- A patient was transported from Vermillion to the Human Services Center in Yankton for an involuntary mental health committal.

5:31 PM -- A juvenile was transported from the Juvenile Detention Center in Sioux Falls to her home in Vermillion.

Tuesday, August 27

8:35 AM -- A deputy investigated a report of a vehicle passing a stopped school bus near Meckling. There was insufficient information available about the vehicle to allow for prosecution of the driver.

9:44 AM -- An inmate was transported to a medical appointment.

9:52 AM -- A rural resident called to report a man stating he was an insurance agent wanted to make an appointment to come to her house to discuss insurance. A deputy investigated and learned it was an actual insurance agent and this was not a scam attempt.

10:53 AM -- An inmate was transported to a medical appointment.

1:09 PM -- An inmate was transported from the jail to a medical appointment.

4:01 PM -- Two inmates who were being held in Minnehaha County Jail due to crowding in the Clay County Jail were transported back to Clay County to attend court hearings.

4:54 PM -- A deputy investigated a report of a sexual contact between two people in Irene. The matter did not appear to be criminal.

8:06 PM -- A deputy mediated a dispute near Meckling when one landowner's cattle got loose and trespassed into a neighbor's farm field.

Wednesday, August 28

9:36 AM -- An inmate was transported from the jail to a medical appointment.

3:42 PM -- The school resource officer investigated a report of a damaged vehicle in the school parking lot. It appeared the damage may have happened elsewhere but was not noticed until later.

9:32 PM -- A deputy assisted a Turner County Deputy with an arrest of a wanted person in Irene.

Thursday, August 29

9:01 AM -- A deputy responded along with a Highway Patrol Trooper and Rescue units to a rollover crash west of Vermillion. The driver was not injured and was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.

10:22 AM -- An inmate was transported to the hospital in Vermillion for a blood transfusion due to a medical condition. A jail officer remained with the inmate for several hours during the procedure.

11:18 AM -- The school resource officer investigated a report of truancy after a student left the high school without permission.

10:07 PM -- A deputy responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at an Irene residence. No crime had occurred and the situation had resolved itself when one person had left the residence. No arrest was made.

Friday, August 30

8:24 AM -- A wanted person was transported from the Yankton County Jail to the Clay County Jail.

3:44 PM -- A deputy investigated a report of an ATV stolen from a rural residence. It was later learned that a family member had borrowed the ATV and it had not been stolen.

Saturday, August 31

7:19 AM -- A fire alarm was received from the Irene High School. A deputy was present in the school parking lot at the time and responded. It was determined to be an alarm malfunction and there was no fire.

11:23 AM -- A deputy responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked at the dead end of Princeton St. north of Vermillion. The occupants of the vehicle were found to be four young people eating fast food. No criminal activity was observed.

2:57 PM -- A patient was transported from the hospital in Vermillion to a hospital in Sioux Falls for an involuntary mental health committal.

5:12 PM -- A deputy responded along with EMS to a report of a medical emergency in Irene.

5:44 PM -- A deputy responded to a report of ponies running on University Road causing traffic disruptions.

11:33 PM -- A deputy responded to assist Vermillion Police Officers with a report of a noise complaint at a Vermillion residence where a party was taking place. Three arrests were made.
