SUNDAY, AUGUST 18
1:46 a.m. - A vehicle was stopped and the driver was cited for speeding on Burbank Road near Vermillion.
9:56 p.m. - A deputy responded along with the Wakonda Fire Chief to a report of a smoke and burning smell in Wakonda. The source of the smoke was found to be trash burning in a burn barrel.
MONDAY, AUGUST 19
9:20 a.m. - An inmate was transported to a medical appointment and then was returned to the jail.
1:34 p.m. - The School Resource Officer responded to a report of a medical incident at school. Care was provided to the adult patient until the arrival of EMS.
2:01 p.m. - A woman was picked up on an order for a mental health evaluation. After the evaluation, the woman was ordered to be released due to no threat of self-harm being found. The woman was driven back home.
3:22 p.m. - An inmate was transported from the Jail to a doctor appointment.
5:03 p.m. - A Wakonda business reported a customer was argumentative. A deputy made contact with the customer. No charges were filed.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 20
9:10 a.m. - A deputy responded to a report of a bag of trash dumped near the Clay County Park Campground.
9:11 a.m. - A vehicle was stopped and the driver was cited for speeding on Main Street in Irene.
2:57 p.m. - An inmate was transported to a medical appointment and then was returned to the jail.
3:29 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of a 911 call from a rural residence. The call was determined to be a phone malfunction.
6:25 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report from an Irene resident of a window broken in a vacant rental house at sometime within the past two months.
9:44 p.m. - A deputy stopped to assist a driver of a vehicle that had mechanical problems on Highway 46. The vehicle was moved out of the travel lane.
10:16 p.m. - A deputy stopped to check on a vehicle parked on Highway 19. The vehicle's owner was found fishing under a bridge and was not in need of any assistance.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21
11:27 a.m. - Five inmates being held for Clay County in the Minnehaha County Jail were transported to Clay County for court appearances.
2:13 p.m. - Two inmates were transported from the State Prison in Sioux Falls to the Clay County Jail to be held for court appearances.
4:23 p.m. - A deputy responded along with Wakonda First Responders and Vermillion EMS to a report of a medical emergency in Wakonda.
6:22 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report from a concerned caller of a woman walking along Highway 50. The woman was found to be wanted in Yankton County and was arrested for the warrant. She was also found to be in possession of controlled substances and items used for ingestion of illegal drugs. The woman was charged with drug offenses.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 22
2:35 p.m. - Two inmates were returned to the State Prison in Sioux Falls after court appearances a third inmate was transported to the Prison to begin his prison sentence.
4:47 p.m. - Seven inmates were transported, in two trips, to the Minnehaha County Jail to be held there due to crowding in the Clay County Jail.
6:18 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of a domestic altercation at a Wakonda residence. One person was arrested for domestic assault. The person arrested for assault was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Additional drug offenses were charged.
7:23 p.m. - A deputy investigated a report of a theft of property from a camper parked at the Clay County Park.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 23
12:34 p.m. - A deputy investigated a report from a rural resident who reported a protection order was violated by a man in Watertown sending text messages. It appeared the messages may have been sent before the order was served. The matter is under investigation.
6:09 p.m. - A deputy assisted a Union County Deputy and Highway Patrol Troopers with a report of a woman who was hallucinating and ran from a Union County business. The woman was located and the deputy returned to Clay County.
11:41 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report from an Irene resident that she suspected a prowler was causing her dog to bark. The deputy did not find anything suspicious in the area.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 24
1:03 a.m. - A deputy responded to the jail to assist staff with a physically uncooperative inmate.
7:37 a.m. - A deputy received a report of a vehicle left parked in a rural resident's driveway on Highway 50 near Vermillion. Efforts were made to contact the registered owner but the owner could not be located. The property owner allowed the vehicle to remain for the present time so the owner could remove it.
4:03 p.m. - Callers reported a man was laying in the grass along the Highway 50 bypass. A deputy checked on the man and found he was resting while walking to Yankton and was not in need of assistance. Later, another caller reported the man walking along Highway 50. The deputy checked on him again. It was starting to rain so the man was given a ride to an open business for shelter until he could continue on his way.
5:59 p.m. - A deputy investigated a report of an alleged sexual assault in a rural area. The matter is under investigation.
