Vermillion High School’s Class of 2020 will celebrate the completion of their K-12 education with a pre-recorded, “virtual” graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 16.

This unique event is made necessary because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for social distancing.

A link to the graduation exercises will appear on the Vermillion School District’s webpage -- -- at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The ceremony may be accessed beginning at 2:30 p.m. Saturday from the high school’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Access to the ceremony from these sources will be available for a month.

Opening remarks will be presented by Zadya Abbott and music for graduation, directed by Trisha Fisher, will be VHS seniors performing “I Want It That Way.”

Class comments will be given by Alexis Saunders and Brooke Assmus. Following their comments, Dr. Doug Peterson, president of the Vermillion School Board, will present the Vermillion School District’s Teacher of the Year Award.

VHS Principal R. Jon Frey will address the seniors. Presentation of diplomas by Peterson will follow.

Closing remarks will be given by Evelyn Saltzgiver.

Music for the graduation ceremony will be provided by organist Christy Kimball for the processional and recessional.
