Tomorrow, during the USD game versus Missouri State, Vermillion resident and veteran Andy Howe will be recognized as the inaugural recipient of a new award, the University of South Dakota Alumni-Veteran of the Year. The award, presented by the American Legion, recognizes a “distinguished USD alumnus who has served in the U.S. Armed Forces” and whose character is “above reproach.”

Howe, a 1990 USD graduate who currently serves as the Clay County Sheriff, is the ideal recipient for the award for many reasons, from his military record and character to his work with veterans and strong history of community service.
