Arbor Day Planting

Second graders from Vermillion’s elementary schools were on hand Friday to watch a mechanized spader plant an Autumn Blaze Pear tree in Prentis Park near the Prentis Plunge bathhouse as part of the city’s celebration of Arbor Day. The new addition to the park will grow to a height of about 40 feet with branches spanning about 30 feet when mature. The students learned that the tree will boast white blossoms in the spring and dark green leaves in the summer. In the fall, the tree will change once again, boasting beautiful red leaves before winter arrives.
