As one of a very few black people raised in Vermillion, how dare you, however “inadvertently,” lump my cousin in with your obvious agenda against the mayor. Your ill-fated attempt to combine your political discord into nationwide issues is laughable at best.
It’s people (because you are definitely not a journalist) like you, who are incapable of coming to a coherent thought without latching onto what you read and see and how you interpret it, that causes so much confusion and distrust in today’s society.
What were you trying to accomplish? A scathing retort to a library board appointment by a mayoral suggestion? Your Pulitzer is in the mail! Your correlation between racism, bigotry, homophobia, and censorship is a putrid attempt to lessen all of the above by placing them under the same umbrella in an attempt to rile people to gain clicks. Well sir, you got my click and I hope it was worth it. Under no circumstance should Dr. Courtney Merkwan be lumped in and named in such a frivolous attempt to push your personal agenda.
You should resign immediately because it is a matter of great concern to the great people of Vermillion, whom I grew up with, that you get a public forum.

The press hijacking the language of social justice in order to pursue personal vendettas is a real problem in many progressive communities.
