Today, the temperature hovered around 100 degrees. The weather has been dangerously hot for several days. Yet, not every kid in Vermillion was swimming in the Prentis Plunge pool. When asked why not, every child that I encountered riding a bike, playing in the yard or wandering around town looking bored and wilted, answered forlornly "No pass."
I was horrified to learn that a season pass to the pool costs $50 per person, aged 7 years and up. The pool should be FREE!! Not every family can afford that price, particularly families with more than one child. Goodness knows, my local taxes are high enough, like the temperature.
Why isn't the pool included? Don't you think it's rather unfair that some kids can swim and keep cool while others cannot. Whose crazy idea was that?
