SUNDAY, JANUARY 12

3:28 p.m. - A deputy investigated a report from a man in Irene who said another man threatened him. No evidence of threats was found and it was determined that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the incident.

5:03 p.m. - A deputy responded to a request to check the welfare of dogs at a Meckling residence. The dogs were found in good health and were receiving proper care.

MONDAY, JANUARY 13

12:22 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of someone trespassing on rural property and doing target practice. Information was shared with other deputies to allow for extra patrol.

1:44 p.m. - An inmate was transported to a medical clinic for medical clearance prior to a mental health committal. The inmate was then returned to the jail.

1:54 p.m. - The School Resource Officer responded to a report of a medical emergency in a classroom. Care was provided to the patient until the arrival of EMS.

3:44 p.m. - A deputy assisted with a death investigation in Vermillion.

3:50 p.m. - An inmate was transported from the Minnehaha County Jail to the Clay County Jail.

5:06 p.m. - A deputy responded to a rural residence to mediate a dispute over personal property.

5:20 p.m. - An inmate was transported to the Human Services Center in Yankton for an involuntary mental health committal.

5:52 p.m. - A deputy encountered a recent crash involving a semi and a deer. The road was cleared and information was taken for a crash report.

8:08 p.m. - A deputy responded to a one vehicle crash on Highway 46. The driver was cited for failing to maintain insurance on her vehicle.

8:41 p.m. - A deputy responded to a request to check the welfare of a man at a rural residence. The man had not been seen in several days. The deputy found the man deceased in his home. After investigation, it was determined that the man died of natural causes.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 14

9:53 a.m. - Deputies assisted agents from the Division of Criminal Investigation with a search warrant at a residence near Wakonda. Drugs, drug paraphernalia, and firearms were seized. Three people were arrested and transported to the Clay County Jail.

11:46 a.m. - The School Resource Officer investigated a report of a habitually truant Irene High School student.

2:23 p.m. - An inmate was transported to a medical appointment and then was returned to the jail.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15

1:46 a.m. - A deputy responded to assist Vermillion police officers with a response to a report of someone in a house that was supposed to be vacant. It was found that the man inside was authorized to be there.

4:10 p.m. - Four inmates who had been held at the Union County Jail due to crowding were returned to the Clay County Jail.

5:41 p.m. - Deputies investigated a report of a runaway teenager in Irene. The girl was located the next day and was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Sioux Falls.

8:05 p.m. - A deputy assisted Vermillion police officers with an investigation at a Vermillion residence.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 16

11:32 a.m. - A deputy investigated a report from a rural resident of footprints in the snow around his house. The deputy learned the footprints had been made by a rural water employee and there had been no crime.

5:10 p.m. - Deputies and a Highway Patrol Trooper responded to a 2 car accident with no injuries on Highway 50 east of Vermillion.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 17

11:38 a.m. - A deputy assisted a driver and vehicle stuck in the snow in Irene.

12:03 p.m. - A deputy assisted a driver and vehicle stuck in the snow in Vermillion.

6:40 p.m. - A deputy responded to a request to assist with multiple vehicles that had slid into the ditch on Highway 19 due to slick roads. Two of the vehicles had damage that required accident reports.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 18

4:57 a.m. - A deputy responded to a report of a vehicle that had slid into the ditch due to slick roads near Meckling. There was no damage and there were no injuries.

4:50 p.m. - A deputy responded along with Highway Patrol Troopers to an injury accident east of Irene on Highway 46.

6:12 p.m. - A deputy responded to a medical emergency at a rural residence. Care was provided to the patient until the arrival of EMS.
