10:47 a.m. - An officer stopped a vehicle for doing 65 mph in a 50 mph zone. The driver was cited for speeding.

11:28 a.m. - Vermillion Officers assisted the University Police Department as they conducted an assault investigation and arrested the suspect.

3:01 p.m. - Complainant reported her roommates may have been stealing her prescription drugs. Under investigation.

3:47 p.m. - Caller reported past tense shopliftings of alcohol by two younger women. Investigation resulted in charges being referred on a women under 21 and a juvenile for the thefts.

9:53 p.m. - Caller reported a road rage incident and described the vehicle. Officers contacted and stopped the driver who was intoxicated and suspended. The man was arrested for DWI 2nd offense, driving while suspended, and other related charges.

10:57 p.m. - An officer stopped a vehicle for traveling 45 in a 35 mph zone. The driver's license was suspended. The driver was arrested.


4:56 p.m. - Officers responded to report of paint spilled on the roadway. Video from the University Police Department identified the vehicle and driver. The driver was cited for unsecured load.



8:06 a.m. - Officers contacted a man who was driving on a suspended license. The man had a warrant out of Iowa and was arrested for having a warrant.

10:52 a.m. - An Officer stopped a vehicle for doing 60 mph in a 45 mph zone. The driver was cited.

3:40 p.m. - Caller reported a truck being driven by an intoxicated driver who was leaving a local convenience store. Investigation led to the arrest of the driver for DWI 2nd offense, and other related charges.


4:49 p.m. - Officers responded to a report of a small child being left unsupervised and was now locked out of his apartment. Investigation revealed the mother had left the child for several hours. Information was forwarded to the State's Attorney for review.

10:36 p.m. - Caller reported large ariel fireworks being set off. Officers located the subjects and warned them regarding the prohibition against ariel fireworks in City Ordinance.

11:44 p.m. - An officer stopped a vehicle for running a stop sign. The driver was cited.


12:13 a.m. - Caller reported her cell phone had been stolen. Under investigation.

1:54 p.m. - Caller reported ariel fireworks being set off nearby their residence. Officers located the subject and advised him of the limitations set out in the City Ordinance.

6:57 p.m. - Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive man who had fallen in a local tavern. Officers found the man to be pulseless and breathless and immediately initiated CPR. The ambulance arrived shortly after and took over care. Unfortunately, the man did not survive.


1:58 p.m. - A local business reported a past tense shoplifting that was caught on video. Officers contacted the suspect who confessed to the theft. Charges were referred to the State's Attorney Office.

2:33 p.m. - Vermillion Officers assisted with a urgent medical situation in the Clay County Jail. Officers provided assistance until the ambulance arrived and the Jail Staff no longer required assistance.

3:14 p.m. - Officers provided traffic control for a the Fallen Officers Motorcycle Poker Run as it passed through town. VPD was assisted by the South Dakota State Troopers and the University Police Department.

4:53 p.m. - Caller requested officers check the welfare of a man who appeared heavily dressed for the hot weather. They reported concern for his health. Officers spoke with the man who appeared not to be in danger.

7:38 p.m. - Caller reported a man walking down the road with an unholstered pistol. An officer located a man matching the description who was carrying a black water bottle. No further action.
