USD is Requiring Face Coverings

Announced by the South Dakota Board of Regents (SDBOR), starting August 19th, the University of South Dakota will require face coverings in all public indoor spaces on campus this fall semester. This protocol applies to students, faculty, staff and visitors. Face coverings may include a mask, bandana, shield, or any other covering that covers the mouth and nose.

“USD strongly supports wearing face coverings as a practical way to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. In addition to maintaining physical distancing and washing your hands, wearing a face covering is one of the most significant steps we can take to help protect others and ourselves,” said USD President Sheila K. Gestring.

To begin fall semester operations on the campuses, the regents agreed to require face coverings in all public indoor spaces on campus (Level 3). This action will be reviewed 30 days after the start of the fall academic term.

Vermillion Area Farmer’s Market

We are going to end the drive-through market. As much as we had hoped it would increase safety, it seems to have increased risk in other areas. The market will be all walking as usual. We apologize for any inconvenience. However, we encourage those in high-risk populations to contact vendors in advance to order for the week.

Saturday markets are returning! Look for us the last Saturday of each month!

Vermillion Mural Project is complete!

The Vermillion Community Mural Project is complete! The indigenous-led, community-based mural project taking place on two walls of the Coyote Twin Theater in downtown Vermillion is a two-part installment. The awe-inspiring mural showcases vivid imagery created by three indigenous artists and members of the Vermillion community.

The artists who conceptualized the mural design are USD alumni Reyna Hernandez (Ihanktonwan Dakota), Elizabeth Skye (Standing Rock Sioux Tribe), and Inkpa Mani (Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota). Reyna, Liz and Inkpa have used different mediums to address the lack of native visibility and hope to engage conversations that work toward creating a better-informed discourse concerning indigenous lives and experiences.

A dedication ceremony to be held in conjunction with the Oscar Howe Memorial Lecture in September.
