Sunday, December 5

12:57 a.m. - Vermillion officers responded to multiple attempts to damage and the vandalize the holiday tree in the downtown district of Vermillion. Video footage has been made available and the incident is under investigation.

1:44 a.m. - Vermillion officers assisted Clay & Turner County Deputies with an ongoing investigation of a crime against a person. The incident is under investigation.

1:50 a.m. - An officer stopped a subject who was moving a traffic barricade in the downtown district. The officer found the subject was not authorized to move the traffic device and was in possession of an open container of alcohol. The subject was cited for the alcohol violation and released. Charges are pending.

4:04 a.m. - Vermillion officers responded to a call of suspicious activity. Officers responded but were unable to locate any suspicious persons in the area.

8:16 a.m. - Officers responded to a driving complaint. Officers located the vehicle and found the driver was in need of medical attention. Officers summoned the Vermillion Ambulance and the driver received medical treatment. No charges were filed.

3:40 p.m. - Officers responded to a 911 call of a stolen vehicle from a local business. Officers located the vehicle and found the suspect. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody. The vehicle was returned to it's owner. Multiple charges are pending. The Clay County Sheriff's Office and the South Dakota Highway Patrol assisted in the incident.

Monday, December 6

8:38 a.m. - Vermillion officers assisted a subject in need of mental health resources. Officers were able to utilize a dedicated tablet for mental health issues and were able to get the subject the assistance they needed.

5:39 p.m. - Officers assisted another law enforcement agency with a check welfare request. Officers were unable to locate the subject in question in Vermillion.

Tuesday, December 7

12:39 p.m. - Officers responded to a report of a man assaulting a child. Investigation resulted in the arrest of an adult male for domestic simple assault.

3:25 p.m. - While investigating a theft where a subject had been arrested, officers located a cell phone that did not belong to the subject. The owner was located and the cell phone had been stolen out of his vehicle earlier in the day. The arrested subject was charged with additional charges.

7:35 p.m. - An officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The officer's investigation found the driver to be unlicensed with no proof of insurance. The driver was cited for multiple offenses and the vehicle was impounded. Charges are pending.

Wednesday, December 8

1:56 a.m. - While on routine patrol an officer located a vehicle running with a driver that appeared to be sleeping. The officer checked on the subject and found the driver to be intoxicated. The driver was arrested and charges are pending.

2:30 p.m. - Officers investigated a report of a domestic assault at a residence. One adult male was arrested for misdemeanor assault.

3:00 p.m. - Officers responded to a report of an ongoing domestic dispute. Investigation resulted in an adult male being arrested for domestic simple assault.

Thursday, December 9

6:11 p.m. - Caller reported that a group of children appeared to be fighting in a neighborhood. Officers located the kids and determined that they were play fighting with adult supervision.

8:10 p.m. - Officers responded to a residence for a known medical condition.

Friday, December 10

1:46 a.m. - Officers encountered an adult male who was under the age of 21 and in possession of an open container on a city sidewalk. The male was cited for underage drinking, open container and then released.

9:11 a.m. - Officers investigated a report of a domestic assault at a residence that happened during the early morning hours. The victim was repeatedly bit by her boyfriend and felony domestic assault charges are pending. Alcohol was a factor.

Saturday, December 11

3:01 a.m. - An officer made contact with a vehicle which was stopped on the side of the road with a door open and running. The person in the driver's seat was underage and intoxicated. He was arrested for DWI and underage consumption of alcohol.

12:51 p.m. - Officers provide a funeral escort.
