1:04 a.m. -Officers received information of a possible intoxicated driver. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle or the driver.

3:05 a.m. - Vermillion officers ticketed and towed vehicles in the downtown district so the street department could remove snow. A total of eight vehicles were towed.

10:22 p.m. - Officers responded to an anonymous noise complaint. Officers arrived on scene but could not substantiate the complaint. No charges were filed.

Monday, December 13

11:06 a.m. - Officers received information of suspicious activity at a local school. The incident has been forwarded to detectives for further investigation.

11:07 a.m. - Officers responded to a local business for a report of a past-tense hit and run with property damage. The incident is under investigation.

5:45 p.m. - An officer responded to a non-injury accident within the city. Officer's investigation found one driver was following another vehicle too closely and struck the vehicle in front of it as the vehicle tried to turn. One driver received a citation. Icy roads were a factor.

8:33 p.m. - Officers responded to a reported missing person. Officers were able to locate the missing person and ensured their safe return home.

9:44 p.m. - Officers responded to a reported dispute between persons. Officers found the issue at hand to be a non-criminal matter and no crimes had been committed. No charges were filed.

11:20 p.m. - An officer stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver told officers they had an active warrant for their arrest and no proof of insurance for the vehicle. The warrant was confirmed and the driver was arrested on the warrant. The vehicle was impounded for no proof of insurance. Charges are pending.

Tuesday, December 14

4:07 p.m. - Officers responded to a 911 call for medical assistance from a local business. Officers arrived on scene and rendered aid until Vermillion EMS arrived and began caring for the patient.

7:49 p.m. - Officers responded to a report of suspicious activity. Officers searched for the suspicious person but were unable to locate them. This incident is under investigation.

9:49 p.m. - Officers investigated a report of a noise complaint at an apartment complex.

11:59 p.m. - Caller wished to report a series of threatening text messages they had been receiving from a friend in Sioux Falls.

Wednesday, December 15

8:09 a.m. - Officers responded to a report of a dispute between two persons regarding a stolen bicycle.

10:45 p.m. - An officer found a grill cover in the roadway. It has apparently blown there during the ongoing storm from an unknown location. It was removed from the roadway.

Thursday, December 16

11:20 p.m. - Officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence. No arrests were made.

Friday, December 17

8:06 a.m. - Officers provided additional patrols of the schools in response to a nationwide social media challenge for students to participate in violent acts on 12/17/21. Nothing occurred.

1:12 p.m. -An officer responded to a call from an elderly subject needing help. Investigation showed she was being cared for by family and friends. The officer noted there were chickens living in the home and there were flies everywhere. Animal Control was notified, and the owner of the chickens was given time to remove the chickens from the property.
