CorTrust Bank Named Top Bank in South Dakota Second Year in a Row by Forbes Magazine
For the second year in a row, CorTrust Bank has been named Best Bank in South Dakota by Forbes Magazine. CorTrust Bank President and CEO Jack Hopkins said, “This recognition is a testament to our employees and the great work they do every day. Our customers and the communities we serve tell our story best, and we look forward to continuing to raise expectations for years to come.”
In the second annual review of Best Banks in each state, Forbes partnered with the market research firm Statista and surveyed nearly 25,000 people in the U.S. about their banking relationships.
Consumers were asked 20 questions about their banking partner and banks were rated based on customer recommendations and satisfaction. Respondents were also asked about five key banking areas including trust, terms and conditions, branch services, digital services, and financial advice.

Monster X Truck is coming to the LaunchPAD
The LaunchPAD Children’s Museum is hosting a monster truck from the Monster X Tour in the LaunchPAD parking lot in celebration of their Monster Summer Sale on July 8th from 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm. Families will be able to sign up for a membership in the LaunchPAD parking lot and will receive monster bucks for doing so. Monster Bucks will be in the amount of $10 and can be used towards a future purchase at the LaunchPAD’s Odyssey Toy Store. Featured products from the Odyssey Toy Store will be sold in the parking lot. All current and new members will receive 20% off all retail products during the Monster Sale.
For $10, kids can create their own LaunchPAD Blast t-shirt. By choosing three colors they can blast paint through a spray bottle onto the shirt to create a one of a kind design.
During this time, Q102 will be doing a two-hour live remote from the LaunchPAD’s parking lot. LaunchPAD will be giving away four tickets to the Monster X Truck series on Saturday, July 11th. Monster X Tour will have two shows, 1:30 pm and 7:30 pm at Park Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson, South Dakota.
Greening Vermillion has been working on recycling and sustainability education for the community. You can access Greening Vermillion education resources which can help the Vermillion community recycle.

Messy Hands Summer Camp Kit
Brought to you by Vermillion Area Arts Council & Vermillion Public Library. For over ten years, the Vermillion Area Arts Council's Messy Hands Summer Art Camp has been the premiere hands-on, visual arts event for kids and teens each summer. This year the excitement continues in a new way. With the generous support of the South Dakota Arts Council, Vermillion Public Library, Friends of the Library, City of Vermillion, and private donors, Messy Hands Summer Camp is now a take-home kit!
Perfect for budding artists aged 5 & up, Messy Hands Summer Camp kits will contain 10-12 visual art projects ranging from art principles & fundamentals to simple ceramics, watercolor, and even digital photography! Most materials needed to complete each project once will be included, along with follow-along handouts, and resource lists with links to tutorial videos made by our very own Messy Hands Summer Camp instructors.
Kits will be distributed in early July as part of the Summer Reading Program through the Vermillion Public Library. All registrants will receive precise pickup information via email.

Vermillion Public Library COVID-19 Updates
During July we will continue to offer our pick-up at the door service for library materials. Staff are available from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday to answer the phone, respond to emails, and pull materials. We have 30-minute computer sessions available by appointment. If you need help with printing, faxing, or copying please contact us for assistance.
Our virtual summer reading program is underway, check out our website and Facebook page for summer activities and programming!
Returned library materials are being quarantined and wiped down before resuming circulation. However, please keep in mind, the library cannot guarantee germ-free physical materials. You need to consider if using physical library materials is best for you and your family.
We appreciate everyone’s patience during this difficult time. We are working hard to offer as many services as possible in the safest way we can. Despite the highly fluid nature of the pandemic, we’re still here for our community!
Attention all teens!
The Edith B. Siegrist Vermillion Public Library wants to extend a special invite to all teens this summer. They are hosting a virtual summer reading program this year with the theme "Imagine Your Story,” and will be celebrating fairy tales, mythology, and fantasy! Fridays in June and July, teens can join in on fun activities, Zoom chats, and quizzes. Register to receive links and reminders to your email. Activities include interactive fairy tales, weekly art challenges, and quizzes on fantasy, fairy tales, or mythology, all led by Youth Services Assistant Mackenzie. Cruisin' with the Coyotes is coming to a town near you!
"Cruisin' with the Coyotes" presented by Jerry's Auto Sales is an event to connect fans in local communities. The weekend of July 11th - 12th will see the beloved Charlie Coyote, parading and spreading good cheer through nine different towns including Vermillion and Yankton in a Jerry's vehicle.

Advertising for limited recreational programing will begin with dates of the actual programs to be determined. Baseball and softball practice may begin, but games are not yet to take place in City fields.
City of Vermillion Board Vacancies
To serve on any City board or commission, you must be a resident of Vermillion. If you are interested in serving on either of the boards listed below, please complete an Expression of Interest form that can be submitted via the City’s website.
JOINT POWERS SOLID WASTE ADVISORY BOARD
The City of Vermillion has one vacancy, due to resignation, on the Joint Powers Solid Waste Advisory Board. The Board is comprised of elected officials (4), appointed city staff (2), and citizens from Vermillion, Yankton, Clay County, and Yankton County (4). The Board generally meets four times a year to make recommendations regarding landfill and recycling center operations. Twice in Vermillion and twice in Yankton at approximately 5:30 pm and typically on a Thursday.
To be eligible for this appointment, the individual must be a resident of Vermillion. If interested, please submit an Expression of Interest form via the City’s website. Completed Expression of Interest forms are due by 12:00 pm on Thursday, July 16th, 2020. It is anticipated that City Council will make an appointment at their July 20th, 2020 meeting.
DENR Recognizes the City of Vermillion for Drinking Water Compliance
The South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) announced today that the City of Vermillion public water system and the system’s operation specialists have been awarded a Secretary’s Award for Drinking Water Excellence.
“The coronavirus has brought us many challenges this year including uncertainty about the health of our families and communities. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of South Dakota’s public water supply systems, one resource we do not need to worry about is safe drinking water. DENR is excited to award the City of Vermillion with the Secretary’s Award for Drinking Water Excellence for its efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic and for delivering safe drinking water to their customers for 19 consecutive years,” said DENR Secretary Hunter Roberts. “Year after year, the City of Vermillion system operation specialists have worked tirelessly to provide safe drinking water to its customers and this year is no exception.”
The system’s operations specialists are Wade Mount, Fred Balleweg, Curt Haakinson, Dale Husby, Shane Griese, Tyler Zimmerman, Eric McPherson, and Andrew Wickre.
To qualify for the Secretary’s Award for Drinking Water Excellence, public water systems and their system operations specialists had to meet all of the compliance monitoring and reporting requirements, drinking water standards, and certification requirements for ten consecutive years or more.
