Sunday, October 3

12:57 a.m. - Deputies assisted Highway Patrol Troopers with a traffic safety checkpoint on Highway 50 east of Vermillion.

9:34 a.m. - A deputy responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the caller’s neighbor’s driveway. The deputy located the vehicle and also met with the owner of the vehicle who had a flat tire and was able to get air for the tire and continue on his way.

Monday, October 4

12:56 p.m. - A wanted person was transported from the Yankton County Jail to the Clay County Jail.

Tuesday, October 5

8:04 a.m. - Three inmates were transported from the Union County Jail to the Clay County Jail to attend court appearances.

10:56 a.m. - An inmate was transported from the jail to a medical appointment and then was returned to the jail.

2:18 p.m. - Two inmates were transported from the Union County Jail to the Clay County Jail.

2:56 p.m. - The School Resource Officer investigated a report of a high school student ingesting drugs and being high at school.

2:58 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of dirt piled in the road on 452nd Ave near Wakonda. The deputy contacted people doing work in that area and provided traffic control while they removed the dirt from the road.

9:30 p.m. - A patient was transported from the hospital in Vermillion to the Human Services Center in Yankton for an involuntary mental health committal.

Wednesday, October 6

10:00 a.m. - An inmate was transported from the Union County Jail to a dental clinic. The inmate was then transported to the Clay County Jail.

10:32 a.m. - A juvenile was transported from the Juvenile Detention Center in Sioux Falls to the Clay County Courthouse for a hearing. The juvenile was then returned to the JDC in Sioux Falls.

2:25 p.m. - A wanted person was transported from the Yankton County Jail to the Clay County Jail.

4:52 p.m. - Two inmates were transported from the Clay County Jail to be held at the Union County Jail.

Thursday, October 7

7:36 a.m. - A deputy responded to assist with a death investigation in Vermillion. The death was determined to have been due to natural causes.

8:00 a.m. - Six inmates were transported from the Union County Jail to the Clay County Jail to attend court appearances.

9:49 a.m. - The School Resource Officer investigated a report of a habitually truant high school student. Charges are being considered for truancy.

2:31 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of a vehicle parked blocking an alley in Wakonda. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and was asked to move the vehicle.

3:29 p.m. - A deputy assisted a Vermillion police officer with a traffic stop of a vehicle containing multiple people with warrants. One person was a juvenile with multiple active warrants. The juvenile was transported to a Sioux Falls Juvenile Detention Center.

4:12 p.m. - Two inmates were transported from the Clay County Jail to be held at the Union County Jail. One other inmate was transported from the Union County Jail to the Clay County Jail to be processed for release from custody.

Friday, October 8

10:24 a.m. - An inmate was transported from the Clay County Jail to the State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls to begin his prison sentence.

1:35 p.m. - A deputy addressed an ongoing parking complaint in Irene. A boat on a trailer was illegally parked on a street. Prior to needing to tow the trailer, the deputy contacted the owner who promptly moved the trailer to his own property.

4:32 p.m. - A deputy investigated a report from a Wakonda resident who reported her husband violated his protection order by calling her. Charges are pending.

4:38 p.m. - An inmate was transported from the Clay County Jail to be held in the Yankton County Jail.

7:55 p.m. - A vehicle was stopped and the driver was informed of a non-functioning headlight.

Saturday, October 9

7:09 p.m. - A deputy responded along with fire units to a report of a fire alarm at the landfill. No fire was found.
