SUNDAY, MAY 3

7:49 p.m. - A deputy responded along with Union County Sheriff's units and other agencies to a report of a person recklessly firing a pistol at the Burbank Beach in Union County. Numerous people were present. The deputy assisted with crowd control and gathering witness statements to assist the Union County Sheriff with the investigation.

8:53 p.m. - A deputy investigated a report of a small unlicensed motorcycle being operated illegally on the streets in Irene. Information was shared with other deputies in an effort to locate and cite the operator if the behavior continues.

MONDAY, MAY 4

5:40 a.m. - A deputy transported a person being detained for a mental illness hold from the hospital in Vermillion to the jail to be held until he could be evaluated.

1:00 p.m. - An inmate was transported from the jail to a medical appointment.

2:56 p.m. - A caller reported her elderly mother who lives in Wakonda had a strange man come into her house asking about her TV service and what she pays for it. A deputy located the man and found that he was a legitimate employee of a satellite dish TV provider soliciting new customers in the area.

7:16 p.m. - A deputy received a welfare check request regarding family members' concern for a rural resident. The deputy had very recently spoken to the man who had complained about his family bothering him. The man was not in need of assistance and his family was informed of his status.

7:30 p.m. - A patient was transported from the jail to the Human Services Center in Yankton for an involuntary mental health committal.

10:29 p.m. - A caller requested a deputy to go check a residence where GPS was indicating her boyfriend was so she could learn the identity and gender of the person who lives at that location. The deputy explained that without concern for the welfare of the person, the Sheriff's Office would not intervene in their relationship in this manner.

TUESDAY, MAY 5

8:42 p.m. - A deputy patrolling Irene located a person suspected of a Sioux Falls homicide. The suspect's vehicle was stopped and the person was arrested and transported to Sioux Falls.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 6

8:24 a.m. - An inmate was transported from the jail to an inpatient mental health facility in Yankton.

1:50 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of people walking dogs at Clay County Park. The dogs were not on leashes and were acting aggressively toward other people. Upon arrival, the deputy found that the dogs and owner were no longer in the area.

9:05 p.m. - A deputy responded to a 911 hangup phone call from a Wakonda residence. The deputy learned a child had been playing with a phone and dialed 911. There was no emergency.

THURSDAY, MAY 7

2:05 a.m. - A Meckling resident reported a suspicious person parked in a vehicle in Meckling. A deputy responded and found a woman experiencing car trouble. Another person arrived to help and the decision was made to continue on her way to Yankton.

10:33 a.m. - A deputy responded to a rural residence after a report was made by children at the home that someone had attempted to get in the house. Their mother also responded home and learned the man had been a package delivery service employee and a note had been left on the door.

11:28 a.m. - Deputies investigated a report of a man found beaten and stabbed on a rural road north of Vermillion. The man reported his brother and another man had assaulted him while drinking. The suspects were no longer in this area. Charges are pending.

10:38 p.m. - A caller requested assistance in locating her adult daughter who she had lost contact with but believed her to be in the Irene area. A deputy checked but there had been no contact with the woman and her whereabouts were not determined. There was no indication given that the woman was in danger or any foul play was involved.

FRIDAY, MAY 8

SATURDAY, MAY 9

10:36 a.m. - A rural resident reported two people sleeping in a vehicle parked near her house. A deputy responded and found the two men who had already called a tow truck after their vehicle developed mechanical trouble. The tow service arrived and towed the vehicle.

11:06 a.m. - A deputy mediated a dispute between rural neighbors when one was upset that the other's dog was on his property and he had threatened to shoot the dog.

7:29 p.m. - A deputy responded along with EMS to a medical emergency at a rural residence.
