SUNDAY, MAY 2

11:17 a.m. - A deputy investigated a report from an Irene resident who discovered that someone had thrown roofing nails out in her driveway.

10:42 p.m. - Deputies responded along with EMS to a medical emergency at a rural residence.

MONDAY, MAY 3

9:19 a.m. - A deputy investigated a report of a rural resident who had been the victim of a phone scam. The recipient of the call had become suspicious when the caller requested that she buy gift cards and she quickly ended the call and got assistance in blocking fraudulent transactions and removing unwanted access to her phone.

2:49 p.m. - A deputy responded to a residence near Meckling where a dog had strayed from a neighbor's residence and killed chickens. The owner of the dog was located and was cited for allowing a dog to run at large and to harass or kill domestic animals.

3:27 a.m. - An inmate was transported from the Yankton County Jail to the Clay County Jail after being held there for a probation violation.

4:26 p.m. - An inmate being housed for Clay County in the Union County Jail was transported back to Clay County due to the inmate's behavioral issues.

TUESDAY, MAY 4

8:41 a.m. – An inmate was transported from a treatment facility in Sioux Falls to the Clay County Jail.

11:38 a.m. - The School Resource Officer investigated a report of a student making a knife in the metal shop. The student was also found to be in possession of a vape device. The student was cited for possession of the vape device and since there were no indications of any intent to harm anyone, the matter regarding the knife was handled with school policy.

12:11 a.m. - An inmate was transported to the Minnehaha County Jail to be held there for Clay County.

9:03 p.m. - A deputy responded to a car/deer crash on Highway 19 north of Vermillion.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 5

10:13 a.m. - An inmate was transported from the jail to a dentist appointment.

6:26 p.m. - A caller reported finding a burned vehicle dumped on her vacant rural property. After investigation, it was learned that the woman's teen aged son and his friends had burned and dumped the vehicle there and no crime had been committed.

THURSDAY, MAY 6

7:53 a.m. - An inmate being housed in Union County for Clay County was transported back to Clay County to be processed for release from custody.

9:23 a.m. - A deputy investigated a non-injury crash when a vehicle was reported to be left in a ditch on a rural road.

2:50 p.m. - A deputy investigated a two vehicle crash with no injuries on Highway 50 near Vermillion. One driver was cited for an improper lane change.

4:50 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of damage to trees and dumping of concrete by a neighboring landowner. After visiting with the deputy, the callers indicated they would prefer to reach out to their neighbor and discuss the issue themselves.

FRIDAY, MAY 7

9:47 a.m. - A deputy investigated a report of a young girl who disclosed sexual abuse in the past. It was determined that the offense happened in Sioux Falls. The matter will be forwarded to the Sioux Falls Police for additional investigation.

12:58 p.m. - A deputy responded to a grass fire near a rural residence and provided traffic control for fire units.

1:43 p.m. - A deputy received a report of a tractor having a GPS receiver swapped with a lesser model while it was at a repair shop for service.

2:31 p.m. - A caller reported finding a wallet along Highway 19 south of Vermillion. A deputy located the owner and made arrangements to return the wallet.

2:49 p.m. - A deputy responded to assist with traffic control at a structure fire in Vermillion.

3:33 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Highway 50 near Vermillion. It was determined that the vehicle was having mechanical issues and had overheated. A tow was contacted for the driver and vehicle.

SATURDAY, MAY 8

7:24 p.m. - A deputy met with a Dixon County, Nebraska deputy to recover several road signs that had been stolen from Clay County and located in Dixon County.

7:50 p.m. - A deputy responded to assist Vermillion Police officers at the scene of a report of a man threatening others with a knife.
