SUNDAY, JUNE 28

12:53 a.m. - A deputy assisted a Turner County deputy with the apprehension of a man who had fled from him on foot in Irene. The man was arrested and taken to the Clay County Jail.

10:23 a.m. - A deputy investigated a report of a padlock being cut from a trailer in Wakonda. There was no apparent theft reported by the property owner.

8:18 p.m. - A deputy patrolling on Bluff Road observed numerous head of cattle on or near the road. Contact was made with the owner and assistance was provided to get the cattle properly contained.

9:28 p.m. - A deputy assisted Vermillion police officers at the scene of a disturbance call in Vermillion.

MONDAY, JUNE 29

10:20 a.m. - A deputy assisted a Nebraska sheriff's deputy who was investigating a case regarding a vehicle stolen in Nebraska and then recovered in Nebraska in the possession of a woman who reported she bought it from a Wakonda car dealer. After investigation, charges are under consideration against the Wakonda dealer for selling a vehicle without having a title.

5:34 p.m. - A deputy assisted a driver of a vehicle with changing a blown tire on Highway 50.

TUESDAY, JUNE 30

5:09 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of a 911 hang-up phone call from a Wakonda residence. It was found that there was no emergency and no assistance was necessary. A child had been playing with a phone and hung up after dialing 911.

6:51 p.m. - A deputy investigated a report of a hose on a large sprayer vehicle striking a passing vehicle causing minor damage to the second vehicle.

6:59 p.m. - An inmate was transported to the Yankton County Jail to meet a prisoner transport shuttle for transport to the Women's penitentiary in Pierre to begin her prison sentence.

10:12 p.m. - A deputy assisted Vermillion Police with an investigation into a report of drugs found in a hallway in an apartment building. The drugs were collected and turned over to a Vermillion Police officer for follow up investigation.

10:19 p.m. - A deputy responded along with EMS to a medical emergency at the Clay County Park boat ramp after a man injured himself with fireworks.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 1

6:45 a.m. - A deputy responded to a complaint about stray cattle north of Vermillion. The deputy was able to herd the cattle from a bean field into their pasture.

8:23 a.m. - A deputy responded to the courthouse to assist court services with detaining an argumentative probationer. The woman was booked into the jail on a detainer, pending a urinalysis.

8:47 a.m. - An inmate was transported from the jail to a medical appointment.

12:13 p.m. - A deputy investigated a report of a vehicle left abandoned east of Vermillion. It was found that the owner had removed the plates and obscured the VIN when leaving it there. The vehicle was towed from the area.

9:31 p.m. - A vehicle was stopped in Irene due to a non-functioning headlight. The driver was cited for driving after hours on a restricted license.

11:53 p.m. - A rural resident reported that a shirtless man with a dog rang his doorbell. The man was acting strangely, wanting to hand the caller some documents. The caller refused to open his door for the man who then left in a vehicle. A deputy and Highway Patrol trooper responded to the area but the man was not located.

THURSDAY, JULY 2

2:04 a.m. - A deputy responded to a car/deer crash on 306th St.

9:01 a.m. - A wanted person was transported from the Minnehaha County Jail to the Clay County Jail.

1:38 p.m. - A deputy assisted Vermillion police officers with the execution of a search warrant in Vermillion.

5:08 p.m. - A vehicle was stopped for speeding on 455th Avenue near Wakonda. The driver was found to be on parole and driving with a suspended driver's license. The driver was cited for the violation.

7:04 p.m. - A vehicle was stopped for speeding in Vermillion. The driver was found to be driving without insurance on the vehicle and having a 3 year old child unrestrained in the vehicle. The driver was cited for the offenses.

7:40 p.m. - A vehicle was stopped and the driver was cited for speeding on 302nd St.

8:26 p.m. - A deputy assisted a Highway Patrol Trooper with a traffic stop which resulted in the arrest of two people for drug possession and distribution charges.

11:08 p.m. - A vehicle was stopped and the driver was cited for speeding on Main St. in Irene.

FRIDAY, JULY 3

1:19 a.m. - A vehicle was stopped and the driver was cited for speeding on Highway 50 through Meckling.

11:22 a.m. - A deputy responded to a report of a vehicle blocking a field approach preventing access to the field. The deputy contacted the vehicle's owner who reported he was working on repairing the vehicle to move it. The property owner was understanding and willing to wait so the vehicle was not towed.

6:02 p.m. - A pregnant inmate was transported to the emergency room due to concerns about complications with the pregnancy. After tests alleviated the concerns, the inmate was returned to the jail.

SATURDAY, JULY 4

12:16 a.m. - A deputy responded to a report of a potential domestic assault at a river cabin southeast of Vermillion. The caller, who was reporting that there was about to be an assault, was a drunk man who was argumentative, verbally abusive, and obstructive toward the deputy. The deputy was able to learn that there had been no assault and left the residence.

2:58 a.m. - A deputy responded to the jail after a recent arrestee in booking was having apparent medical issues. The woman was transported to the emergency room for evaluation prior to being received by the jail.

8:40 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of a person operating an ATV illegally on the streets in Irene. The deputy was able to locate the ATV along with the teen driver and his mother at their residence. Information was provided regarding legal requirements for ATV use on the streets.
