SUNDAY, JAN. 20
11:07 a.m. - A deputy assisted a Union County Deputy with an effort to locate a person in Wakonda who was involved in an investigation in Union County. The man was not located.
12:01 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of debris on University Road near Vermillion. The debris was removed from the road.
4:51 p.m. - An inmate being held for Clay County in the Sioux County, IA Jail was transported to the Clay County Jail pending transport to a psychological exam.
7:58 p.m. - Deputies investigated a report of a woman becoming stuck on a rural road after becoming disoriented due to a medical issue. She had already been transported to the hospital. Her vehicle was located, stuck, with minor damage. An accident report was completed.
9:02 p.m. - Deputies responded to a rural residence and arrested a man after a domestic assault incident had occurred in Vermillion and the man had gone to the rural residence.
9:51 p.m. - Deputies responded to a rural residence after a man reported hearing shots near his house. After a search of the area, no one was found hunting or shooting in the area.
MONDAY, JAN. 21
7:08 a.m. - A deputy transported an inmate to a clinic in Sioux Falls for an 8 hour pre-sentence psychological evaluation. At the conclusion of the evaluation, the inmate was returned to the jail.
9:46 a.m. - A wanted person was transported from the Charles Mix County Jail in Lake Andes to the Clay County Jail.
10:00 a.m. - A deputy responded to a report from an Irene woman who reported that her significant other may be removing items from her garage after their relationship ended. The matter is under investigation.
TUESDAY, JAN. 22
12:52 p.m. - An inmate was transported to the Sioux County Jail in Orange City, IA to be held for Clay County. Another inmate was picked up at the Sioux County Jail and returned to the Clay County Jail to be held so an evaluation can be done.
1:11 p.m. - An inmate was transported from the Yankton County Jail to the Clay County Jail after he violated his probation and was detained for Court Services.
3:15 p.m. - While arresting a wanted person on the USD Campus, a deputy and a University Police Officer detected drug activity. The man was arrested for the warrant and additional drug offenses.
5:17 p.m. - A caller reported seeing an open door at a vacant rural residence. A deputy responded and found no forced entry. The property owner was contacted and was notified of the problem. The deputy secured the residence after learning that the latch was known to malfunction.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 23
9:49 a.m. - A caller reported a horse out along a county road. Contact was made with the owner and arrangements were made for the horse to be put into a pasture.
8:49 p.m. - An Irene resident reported receiving a call where the caller claimed to be a granddaughter needing bail money. The Irene woman recognized this to be a scam attempt and did not provide money or personal information.
11:28 p.m. - A caller reported a suspicious person sitting in a vehicle at a rural business. A deputy responded but the vehicle was gone.
11:41 p.m. - A deputy assisted a Vermillion Police Detective with an effort to locate a person in Irene who was suspected of a crime in Vermillion. The man was not located.
THURSDAY, JAN. 24
9:01 a.m. - A deputy investigated a death in Irene. The death was determined to be of natural causes.
10:23 a.m. - An inmate was transported from the jail to a medical appointment and then was returned to the jail.
12:44 p.m. - Jail staff intercepted tobacco that a man brought to the jail, hidden in items he brought for an inmate. Charges are pending against the man for the introduction of contraband to the jail.
1:37 p.m. - A deputy responded to a report of a couch falling from a vehicle onto Highway 50 near Vermillion. The Department of Transportation also responded and removed the couch. The driver and vehicle were not located.
2:03 p.m. - An inmate was transported from the jail to a medical clinic and then was returned to the jail.
4:46 p.m. - An inmate who was arrested in Mitchell for a Clay County warrant was transported by a transport shuttle to Yankton where a Clay County Deputy transported him the rest of the way to the Clay County Jail.
5:39 p.m. - A deputy assisted Turner County Deputies and a Vermillion Police Detective in an effort to locate a man in Irene after the man became a suspect in crimes in Vermillion and Turner County. The man was not located in Irene.
6:16 p.m. - A deputy responded to a car/deer crash on Highway 19 south of Vermillion.
FRIDAY, JAN. 25
1:07 a.m. - A deputy responded to a rural residence to assist with lifting a man who had fallen. EMS was also summoned. Care was provided until the arrival of EMS.
11:25 a.m. - A deputy responded to a residence of a truant high school student and escorted the student to school.
8:45 p.m. - A deputy assisted officers from other agencies in an effort to locate a woman who had threatened suicide. Phone contact was made with her by a Vermillion Police Officer and after some time, she was located on Interstate 29 in Union County by a Highway Patrol Trooper.
SATURDAY, JAN. 26
5:40 a.m. - A deputy responded to a minor, one vehicle crash west of Vermillion when a vehicle slid into the ditch due to slick road conditions.
9:31 p.m. - A Clay County Deputy, along with officers from other jurisdictions, responded to a physical altercation at an Irene residence. One combatant had left the area prior to the arrival of officers. The other was treated by EMS but was transported to the hospital by private vehicle.
