Ronald Jon Rothschadl, 75, of Vermillion, South Dakota passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Vermillion with Pastor Elmer “Sandy” Aakre officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Bluff View Cemetery following the services conducted by V.F.W. Clay County Post ##3061. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m., Friday, February 21, 2020 at Kober Funeral Home in Vermillion with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Ron was born on September 14, 1944, the son of William and Elizabeth (Krol) Rothschadl in Vermillion.
He grew up playing sports, hunting, and fishing. He loved basketball and is the 2nd leading scorer in Tanager history. He graduated from Vermillion High School and got his degree at Sioux Empire College with Fine Arts degree.
He enlisted in United States Army serving his country in Vietnam from 1966-1968. He loved his country and was very proud of his service. He was fiercely patriotic.
He lived a simple life after he was discharged from the military. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved sports and enjoyed watching his Chicago Bears “Go Bears” and Alabama football “Roll Tide”, L.A. Dodgers & Lakers and USD Coyotes.
He is survived by his son, Stuart (wife, Trisha) and their children, Caleb, Seth, and Kiley all of Mitchell, South Dakota; his daughter, Jenny and her son, Dylan of Vermillion, and sister Kristi (husband, Francis) Hunoff of Yankton; niece, Traci (Jack) Entringer of Brandon Valley, SD; and nephew, Jeff Sampson of Tennessee; numerous nieces and nephews.
He loved God, his family and his country. He was a beloved father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Carol Sampson.
