Erma Larson

Erma Evonne (Davis) Larson, 93, of Vermillion died Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Sanford Hospital in Vermillion, S.D.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion, with the Pastor James (Jim) Fowler officiating. Burial will be in Bluff View Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kober Funeral Home in Vermillion with a prayer service starting at 7 pm.

Erma Evonne Davis was born March 21, 1928, the daughter of Clarence and Lillian (Mohr) Davis. She was born on a farm near Nunda, S.D. She attended elementary school in Madison, South Dakota and graduated from Vermillion High School.

On March 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to VanDale Vonnie Larson in Luverne, Minn. From this union, three children were born. They were married 60 years before Vonnies passing in 2008.

After raising her children, she went to work with her husband, Vonnie, and Dick Tonseth at their IGA Grocery Store. She worked over 30 years at USD in the ID Weeks Library and Law School Library until retirement. After retirement she then went back to working from home for Custom Coils.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Deacons board, Vermillion Cemetery Association Board, Vermillion Boat Club, Dakota Hospital Foundation, VFW and Eagles Auxiliary. She was proudly a life time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion.

She had many interests and hobbies over the years. Most recently, she enjoyed playing cards and dominoes at the Main Street Center. She also enjoyed watching Chicago Cubs baseball and attending both men and womans USD Basketball games. She went to many events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Vonnie also got a great deal of enjoyment decorating both the inside and outside of their home for the holidays, especially Christmas. She collected many things over the years such as carnival glass, Christmas villages and dolls, many of the ceramic dolls she poured, molded, painted and clothed.

The most important aspect of her life was her family. She was a very loving and caring wife and mother. She and her husband, Vonnie, were always involved together in one of their favorite pastimes or with one of the children or grandchildren.

Survivors include; two daughters, Barbara Mullally of Rapid City, S.D., and Linda (Mike) Hoesing of Viborg, S.D,; a son, Van (Barb) Larson of Vermillion; eight grandchildren, Teresa (Duane) Nestor of Rapid City, Mason (Lisa Langell) Mullally of Scottsdale, AZ., Michelle (Chad) Gaertner of Viborg, S.D., Laura Hoesing of Beresford, Adam (Brynn) Hoesing of Viborg, Laurie (Lloyd) Miiller of Alcester, S.D., Dustin (Katie) Larson of Harrisburg, S.D. and Nikki (Gerry) Ebel of Vermillion; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandsons; four sisters, Iola Speulda of Milwaukee, WI, Darlene Bottolfson, Donna (Gerald) Sommervold, Patti (Clark) Lewison all of Vermillion and sister-in-law Carol Larson of Palmdale, CA., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, VanDale, parents, Clarence and Lillian; three brothers, Lawrie, Clarence, Jr. and Dick; three grandchildren, Aaron Hoesing and Hoesing twins; and a great-grandchild, Evan Gaertner.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildrens spouses.
