Ardyce Ruth (Melton) Pike (age 84), long time resident of Vermillion, SD, died peacefully on October 8, 2021, at the Sanford Health Vermillion Care Center, with her family by her side.
Ardyce was born with her twin sister on December 3, 1936, in Flandreau, SD to Charlie and Lola Melton. Her father passed away the day before the twins were born and Lola raised her 3 girls on her own. Ardyce met Willam (Bill) Pike in Brookings, SD after hearing Bill on the radio with his radio band, Bill Pike and the Radio Ranch Gang. Her mother wanted her to take guitar lessons from Bill and in a few short months they fell in love and were married on February 15, 1957, in Brookings, SD. At their wedding reception they had a surprise when George Jones and Little Jimmy Dickens played and sang for them. Ardyce and Bill started studying the bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses and were baptized together in 1965. Ardyce was a devoted Mother, a day care Mom, foster care Mom, and worked a variety of jobs so she could be home when the kids came home from school. She loved knitting, crocheting, puzzles, music, playing the guitar, friends and spending time with her family. Ardyce was a beautiful, quiet, and mild spirit and will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held November 06, 2021, at 2:00 pm via zoom with Don Marvin of Kennewick, WA giving the Memorial talk. If you would like to attend, please email Gale Pike at firstname.lastname@example.org.
