William Lewis “Bill” Mount was born on December 9, 1947 to Harvey Emil, Sr. & Genevieve Vivian (Brunick) Mount in Vermillion, SD. He attended Gayville Elementary School, Meckling High School, until it closed and graduated from Wakonda High School in 1966. He attended USD at Springfield, Yankton College and USD majoring in physical education and history. He served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War on riverboats through the Tet Offensive of 1967-1968. Bill was united in marriage to Karen Marie Iverson on September 27, 1967 in San Francisco, CA.

He farmed for most of his life until he sold his farm, but kept his foot in the agriculture game by buying and selling alfalfa. Bill owned and operated Mount Truck Sales in Meckling, SD where he could be found daily buying, fixing and selling trucks. He never met anyone he couldn’t have a conversation with.

His hobbies included flying his airplane and being outdoors spending time on the river boating and fishing. Bill was able to walk away when the plane he was flying crashed near Meckling several years ago. Playing card games was a favorite past time too – a highlight of his Mondays and Wednesdays was playing cards with his mother and brothers.

Bill’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and teasing his grandkids. He always had a pet or two around and made sure they never went without anything they needed; including daily aspirins or insulin shots.

He was a man of deep faith and enjoyed watching Pastor Salem on Sunday mornings. He always found the Angel Number 444 in his daily life that represents hard work and determination, which he practiced every day. He died with his work boots on.

Grateful for having shared in Bill’s life: his wife of 52 years, Karen Mount of Yankton, SD; his two children: Jeff (Dolores) Mount of Burbank, SD and Melissa Castillo of Sturgis, SD; six grandchildren: Dayjia (Travis), Billy, Kellie, Isabel, Brielle and Ciena; two brothers: Gary (Pat) Mount of Wakonda, SD and Brian (Janet) Mount of Meckling, SD; sister-in-law, Barb Mount of Platte, SD; in-laws: Dennis (Robin) Iverson, Robert (Linda) Iverson, Brad (Mary) Iverson, and Karla (Steve) Wilson; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
