The U18 Blast Softball team went to York, Nebraska, for a tournament this past weekend. On Saturday, they played the York Fusion, Midplains Prowlers, and Gresham Blackbirds. Blast played Norfolk on Sunday.

In their first game against the York Fusion, Blast lost 0-9.

“Their pitcher shut us down and they were ready to hit,” said head coach Tagney Walters.

Against the Midplains Prowlers, Blast came back from being down to end the game in a tie 5-5.

At the plate, Morgan Tritz was 1-for-1 and walked twice. Sid Hockett was 2-for-2 with a sac bunt. Elizabeth Parks also went 2-for-2.

In the final Saturday game, Blast fell to the Gresham Blackbirds 1-10.

On Sunday, Blast was ahead of Norfolk 1-0 before the tournament was canceled due to rain. The one run was a home run by Parks.

“As a team, we’ve talked about working together and communicating on the field to help improve our overall outcomes of games,” said coach Walters. “Also, [we] have talked about making adjustments to different pitchers in order to step up when runners are in scoring position.”

Blast will play this Monday in Norfolk, Nebraska, against the Kelly’s at 6 p.m.
