Vermillion girls basketball traveled to Madison for the Dak XII/NEC Clash. The Tanagers played Redfield and won 55-42.
The game was low-scoring in the first quarter as Vermillion had the 8-5 lead. The Tanagers increased the deficit by eight in the second to enter the half up 27-16.
Redfield outscored Vermillion by two in the third, but the Tanagers remained ahead 37-28. In the fourth, Vermillion built their lead to solidify the 55-42 win over the NEC opponents.
Vermillion senior Lexi Plitzuweit had a double-double with 18 points and 10 assists. She also had seven rebounds and four steals. Plitzuweit averages 16.2 points per game, 8.9 rebounds per game and 5.5 assists per game.
Sophomore Leah Herbster tallied 10 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Eighth-grader Brooke Jensen had 10 points, one rebound, one assist, one block and one steal on the night.
The Vermillion girls play Tuesday in a home doubleheader versus Wagner. The girls play at 6:30 p.m., and the boys follow at 8.
