Since the wrestling team faced off at the home triangular on Dec. 13, and the basketball teams opened up their season with wins on Dec. 13, the Tanagers have competed in a few more contests.

On the Dec. 16, the girls’ basketball team faced Ponca at home. Unfortunately, the girls fell short by 19 points and lost 31-52. Brooke Jensen, freshman, led the girls in points that night scoring 8 points for the Tanagers. Both Kasey Hanson, freshman, and Chandler Cleveland, sophomore, led the team in rebounds, snagging 6 each.

Following this battle against Ponca, both the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams faced an out-of-state team at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center Classic on Dec. 18. This same day our wrestling team headed to Sioux Falls for the Warriors Invite at Washington High School.

The boys’ basketball team started the day off with a win against Crofton, Nebraska with a score of 53-20. Leading the team in points was senior captain, Charlie Ward, with 12. The rebound leader was senior captain, Jake Jensen, with 8.

The girls’ basketball squad played immediately after the boys against Windom, Minnesota. Leading the team with 13 points, Brooke Jensen helped the Tanagers to a 57-27 victory over Windom.

One hour away, the wrestling team placed sixth at Washington with 109 points as a team. Individually, Nolan Nygren placed sixth, Hayden Schroeder placed second, Padraig Fulton placed sixth, Reise Pittman placed fifth, Felix Perez placed sixth, Rollie French placed second, Jack Kratz placed second, Connor Mattson placed third, and Zach Brady placed second.

The competitions in this upcoming week will include one girls’ basketball game and one boys’ basketball game. These teams both play Tuesday, Dec. 21, for a double header against Tri-Valley in the Vermillion High School gym.
