12U – June 8, 2021

Ponca - 12, Vermillion 12U - 5

Vermillion, SD – It was a battle for the 12U Vermillion team in game one against Ponca, with Ponca cranking out 10 hits in the five run game and taking game one 12-5 over the young Tanagers.

Nolan Nygren and Ryne Chapman led Vermillion with two hits each.

Cooper Reiser, Duke Job, Matthew Roob, Grant Roerig and Austin Sudbeck each added a hit.

On the mound, Nygren started the game, but earned the loss with a very tough performance. Key errors and missed opportunities let the game slip away even though Nygren struck out eight in three innings.

Mason Freeling would get time in relief of Nygren, he would fan three Ponca players in his one and two thirds innings on the mound.

Vermillion 12U – 12, Ponca – 1

Vermillion, SD – In the night cap, Vermillion came out strong, and on the back of great pitching by Ryan Vitt, were able to earn the split by beating Ponca 12-1.

Vitt was unstoppable all evening, starting on the mound and going five innings in the schedule six inning contest. Vitt struck out an incredible 14 batters in those five innings, while only allowing two hits a zero walks. All total on the evening, Vitt threw only 58 pitches.

Ryne Chapman came in relief of Vitt in the top of the sixth. Chapman struck out all three outs, allowed only two hits and did allow the only Ponca run in that frame.

Cooper Reiser and Duke Job paced Vermillion with two hits each. Reiser’s two hits were a double and a single, while Job added a single and a double.

Matthew Roob picked up three RBI. Nolan Nygren earned two.

10U – June 8, 2021

Vermillion - 18, Ponca – 0

Vermillion, SD - Vermillion’s 10U squad banged out 20 hits in five innings and scored a season high 18 runs as the 10U club took down the visitors from Ponca 18-0 in game one on June 8th.

Leading the charge for the home team was Emerson Jarchow who was a perfect four for four on the evening with two doubles and two triples, knocking in five RBI.

Luke Uhl and Cale Cleveland each smashed three hits, with Uhl collecting three RBI and Cleveland four more.

Braxton Moeller, Sawyer Lee, and Sam Vitt also contributed two hits to the Vermillion offense.

On the mound, Vermillion would notch 12 strike outs in game one. Emerson Jarchow sat down six Ponca batters, while Kellen Beach and Reid Reuvers each added three strikeouts apiece to the Vermillion stat line.

Vermillion - 13, Ponca – 3

Vermillion, SD – In game two of the doubleheader, Vermillion still showed great offense, with 13 hits total, helping them to another impressive win 13-3.

Vermillion would use a total of six pitchers to keep Ponca at bay. Sam Sorensen, Sam Vitt, Emerson Jarchow, Mason Nygren, Cale Cleveland and Sawyer Lee all saw time on the hill.

Nygren would strike out five along with Vitt. Sorensen would fan three in his only inning on the bump.

Cleveland, Lee, Jarchow and Nygren would all collect multiple hits on the night. Cleveland and Lee added three hits each. All of Cleveland’s hits were triples.

Lee would fall just shy of the elusive cycle on the night. Lee hit a single, a double, and his first homerun of his young career, all while batting in five Vermillion runs.

Jarchow added two singles on the night and three RBI. Nygren added a single and a double and two RBI.

Kellen Beach, Sorensen and Vitt each recorded one hit.
