Fourth At State

Members of the Vermillion Tanagers golf team which placed fourth in the South Dakota State "A" golf tournament held June 6 and June 7 in Spearfish are Delaney Smidt, Georgia Johnson, Megan Brady, Coach Kirk Hogen, Kensie Mulheron, Stephanie Carr and Kaitlin Tracy.

The Vermillion Tanagers girls golf team brought home fourth place honors after competing in the South Dakota Class “A” girls golf tournament June 6 and June 7 in Spearfish.

Medalists for Vermillion are Kensie Mulheron, who finished 15th at 183 and Stephanie Carr, who tied for 24th at 195.

Vermillion’s Megan Brady placed 34th with a score of 200, followed by the Tanagers’ Georgia Johnson, who placed 49th with a score of 216.

Vermillion’s Kaitlin Tracy placed 56th, with a score of 222.

Sioux Falls Christian ran away with the team title, posting a two-day score of 719 to finish 30 strokes ahead of Sisseton. Winner (764), Vermillion (788), St. Thomas More (810) and Hot Springs (812) rounded out the top six.

Second At Regions

The Tanagers girls golf team had earlier placed second at the 2020-21 Region 2 Golf Tournament held May 27 at Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford.

Vermillion, with a score of 400, was runner-up to Sioux Falls Christian, with a score of 371. The five teams that followed Vermillion were West Central (416), Elk Point-Jefferson (424), Canton (429), Lennox (470) and Tea (575).

The Tanagers’ Megan Brady and Kensie Mulheron each scored 96, placing them in a four-person tie for sixth with Sioux Falls Christian’s Kate Dirksen and Karly Doom.

Vermillion’s Stephanie Carr placed 11th, with a score of 102; Kaitlin Tracy was in a four-person tie for 15th with a score of 106 and Georgia Johnson came in at 24th, with a score of 116.
