The Vermillion girls’ soccer team had their fourth home game and senior night last Tuesday against the 2019 Class A State Champions, Tea Area. The Tanagers tied the Titans 2-2.

Vermillion showed control early in the game, leading to the first goal of the night in minute 12. Senior Elaina Taggart was back post to put the ball to the net off the goalie’s deflection.

After the water break due to the heat a quarter through the game, senior Ellie Schroeder finished a shot at minute 26 to put the Tanagers ahead 2-0.

The competition remained scoreless in the second half. The Titans started to show control later in the second. Tea Area junior Josi Swanson sent a shot into the goal in minute 54 to make it a 2-1 game.

The Titans carried their momentum into the final minutes of the game, scoring in the last two minutes. Tea Area sophomore Kara Knutson finished a shot far post to tie the game 2-2.

The Tanagers had seven shots in the first half and one in the second in the 2-2 tie. The Titans tallied five first-half shots and 17 in the second.

Vermillion freshman goalkeeper Chandler Cleveland captured four saves in the first half. Sophomore Leah Herbster had eight throughout the second.

The Tanagers will play at Sioux Falls Christian Thursday at 6 p.m.
