Vermillion Post 1 Legion baseball hosted at Dakota Valley last Wednesday and won 8-2.
Post 1 took a 1-run lead after the first inning, up 2-1.
Dakota Valley tied the game at two in the third, and Vermillion went up by one in the fourth, 3-2.
In the fifth inning, Post 1 scored five runs to take a solid 8-2 lead.
“We have complete trust in everybody that steps up to the plate, and seeing one of your brothers succeed pumps you up, makes you want to repeat and keep the inning going,” said Willis Robertson.
The score remained the same through the final two innings, ending in a win for the home team.
Vermillion had nine hits and two errors. Dakota Valley had four hits and one error on the night.
On the mound, Jacob Chaussee pitched the game for Post 1 and recorded three strikeouts. At bat, Robertson had the game-high three RBIs.
“I think that as a team, we have been really good at understanding not everything is going to go our way,” said Robertson. “Errors are going to happen, and teams are going to score on us, but we know that mentally we have to stay tough.”
Post 1 will host a doubleheader Monday versus Tabor at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
