SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—South Dakota has a Summit League-best three student-athletes named to the Academic All-League Team announced Tuesday. It marks the second time since joining the conference in 2012 that the Coyotes have had three representatives.

Juniors Alexis Mitchell and Abby Ostrem are on the team for the first time while senior Kellee Willer is the first Coyote to be named to the team in three consecutive seasons. All three earned all-Summit League honors this past season.

Willer is a three-time all-conference performer from Fort Collins, Colorado. She led the Coyotes and ranked fourth in the Summit with eight goals, five of which came in the final four games of the season. Willer netted 15 goals in her career, the 10th-most in program history, and her 13 career assists are third all-time. She maintains a 3.97 grade point average while majoring in elementary and special education.

Mitchell, a midfielder from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, netted six goals this season and led the Coyotes with five assists, which ranked second in the Summit. Mitchell had the game-winning goal in three of South Dakota’s eight wins this season including the finisher in double overtime to beat Wyoming. She maintains a 3.66 GPA while majoring in mathematics.

Ostrem, a defender from Wylie, Texas, helped anchor a line that combined for four shutouts including two in Summit League play. She was second to Mitchell in terms of most minutes played by a Coyote, and even earned her second career assist on a goal against Northern Iowa during non-conference play. Ostrem maintains a 3.82 GPA while majoring in criminal justice.

To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30, completed at least one full academic year at the current institution, and participated in 50 percent of their team’s competitions. League sports information directors and faculty athletic representatives comprised the voters.
