The Vermillion volleyball team played at home last Tuesday against Lennox. The Tanagers lost a close 2-3 match to the Orioles with a maximum 3-point difference in each set.
“We need to keep our heads in the game and stay focused,” said senior Shandie Ludwig.
Vermillion won the first set by three, 25-22. Lennox battled back to win the second by two, 26-24. The Tanagers won the third 25-22.
In the fourth set, Ludwig recorded her 1000th career dig as a Tanager.
“I was very emotional because I’ve had the goal of 1,000 digs since my sophomore year when I moved here to Vermillion,” said Ludwig.
Vermillion fell 22-25 to enter the final set. The fifth went to the Orioles as the Tanagers lost 13-15.
Ludwig tallied 38 digs, one ace, and one kill on the night. Sophomore Claire Doty had six kills, 31 assists, 16 digs, and three aces. Senior Sydney Stockwell had nine kills, 19 digs, and three aces.
Junior Kara Klemme recorded 11 kills, 10 digs, and five aces. Senior Arlena Heyl had five kills, two aces, and one block. Senior Eva Knutson had 12 kills, two blocks, 13 digs, and one ace for the Tanagers.
“I am hoping that we can persevere throughout the season and finish strong,” said Ludwig. “Also, hopefully, we still have a full season.”
Vermillion will play at home Thursday against Madison at 7:30 p.m.
