The Vermillion boys’ golf team went to Spring Creek this past Monday to compete in the Dak XII Conference Meet. The Tanagers finished fourth of 11 teams with a team tally of 334.
Sioux Falls Christian won the conference team title with a 315. Braden Eimers of Madison won the individual title with a 72.
“I think that the we did good yesterday as a team, but I don’t think that we have reached our full potential as a team,” said sophomore Willis Robertson. “And the scores can still be better.”
Robertson was the top golfer from Vermillion. He shot a 79 to place ninth overall. Sophomore Carter Mart placed 17th with an 83.
Sophomore TJ Tracy shot an 85 on the day. Junior Hunter Lavin shot 87, sophomore Ben Burbach a 93, and seventh-grader Carter Hansen 94.
The Tanagers will compete in the Region 2 Meet this Monday at 9 a.m. at the same course, the Spring Creek Country Club near Sioux Falls.
“The team did a good job at taking care of business and focusing on themselves,” said Robertson. “As a team, we all need to work on the mental part of the game and just focus on the next shot.”
State golf will be the following Monday and Tuesday, October 7 and 8, at The Bluffs in Vermillion.
