The Tanager boys’ soccer team played their second home game against Harrisburg, a class AA team. The game ended in a tie 3-3.
“We played well as a team moving the ball around and controlling the tempo of the game by keeping possession,” said Martinez. “Defensively, we did well making them earn every pass, shot, and aerial ball.”
Harrisburg was the first on the scoreboard as they scored in minute 28.
Senior Brady Martinez responded with the second goal, first for Vermillion, to tie the game 1-1 in the following minute.
Vermillion pulled ahead 2-1 in the 35 minute after a goal by sophomore Hari Kadarkaraisamy.
The opponents scored the final goal of the half to tie the game in the 39 minute.
Vermillion was the first to score coming out of the half. Kadarkaraisamy scored again for the Tanagers in minute 63, taking the lead 3-2.
Harrisburg tied the game for good in the 67 minute.
Senior Jacob Chaussee had four saves as goalkeeper throughout the 80-minute game.
The Tanagers next game will be this Saturday, August 31, at home against Groton Area. The game will be at the USD Soccer Complex at 3 p.m.
“The turf will play fast which suits our young team, so we can pass the ball around quickly and hopefully, get a lot of good looks against Groton,” said Martinez.
