Tanager girls basketball hosted Lennox this past Monday in their rescheduled game. Vermillion defeated the Orioles 50-46.
It was a low-scoring affair in the first quarter with the game tied at seven. Vermillion pulled ahead by five at the half, up 25-20.
The Tanagers held the 5-point lead as each team scored 12 in the third. Vermillion led 37-32 going into the fourth.
Lennox took the lead in the fourth and outscored the home team by one. The Tanagers battled back to pull ahead by four to win 50-46.
There were nine lead changes, and the score was tied five times in the 32 minutes of play. Vermillion’s largest lead was by seven at the end of the third, and Lennox had their largest lead by four halfway through the fourth quarter.
Senior Lexi Plitzuweit had the game-high 21 points, six rebounds, six assists and one steal. Sophomore Leah Herbster tallied nine points, eight rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal.
For the Orioles, senior Mara Hinker had 16 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and one block.
The Vermillion girls play Tuesday in a doubleheader at Beresford. Girls’ varsity tips off at 6:30 p.m., and the boys follow at 8 p.m.
